That takes all the fun out of it. QRP operation is more rewarding. Talking the same distance with 1/16'th the power. Of course the guy at the other end need to have a good pair of ears. Try getting your name called on channel 6 when you're barefoot and mobile. Now that's an accomplishment. Do it consistently, and that's an even bigger accomplishment. Any idiot can use an amplifier. It takes no brains. Master your antenna system and you won't need an amplifier.

Then why did you have an 8 pill?

And the most super duper antenna wont ever get you in DX on channel 6 down here at 300 feet elevation. Maybe at 4200 feet in Lordsburg in the middle of a vast wide open expanse, but not down here ever.

The other day when you and Volvo244T lost each other so quickly, who’s antenna wasn’t mastered? Was your superior antenna not able to overcome his inefficient one?

Definitely mine. That and I was already on the other side of Hazelton from him when we first made contact. He was at the Pilot northwest of Hazelton and I was already between Hazelton and McAdoo.

    rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

I wasn't near the Pilot. If I had been, I'd have an easy time hearing you at least 20 miles to the south. I was in the parking lot at work. Much closer, but on the opposite side of the mountain from you.
He doesn't have a clue about the geography of the local area or the topographic Terrain. It's probably over his head.

Only once you've mastered qrp are you ready for an amp. Currently I don't even use one.
I'm sorry you can't do it. Perhaps you need a better technician. Altitude has nothing to do with anything when it comes to DX. In fact being down in a hole, talking DX is all you're going to be able to do since you won't be able to talk locally. What's the altitude of Naples Florida? It's three feet above sea level. I seem to recall a Barefoot radio on Channel 6 quite often down in Naples Florida. Once again if you can't do it doesn't mean it can't be done it just means you need a better technician or you need to learn more about your own antenna system.

Where do you plug the technician in?

Does it go between the antenna and cb or hang off the antenna.

I thought maybe you were worried about the 8 pill amp blowing up on a tech bench. I've heard that can happen. No mobile setup will come to a landlocked state surrounded by trees and talk DX barefoot on channel 6. Barefoot radios can certainly talk DX here, done it plenty of times, but it aint happening on ch 6 unless the apocalypse happened and only two people with cb's survived..

Naples, Florida? Right against the ocean? Just like the Carolinas, Virginia Beach, South Texas, California, Michigan around the Great Lakes. All just happen to be dominant on DX, and right up against big bodies of water.

Tell ya what, come on down here to MS and show us how its done. Elevation doesn't matter now? So height (4200') isn't might with respect to antennas? I wonder why Hard Drive goes where he does to talk then in his mobile? I'm learning a lot.

That's never been a concern of mine.
Been there and done that and I'm sorry if yours can't.
Just because you can't do it doesn't mean it isn't done consistently Everyday by multiple people all around the country.
It happens everyday by multiple people from coast to coast and it's no big accomplishment.
It has no relevance in DX. You can be at the bottom of the Grand Canyon and talk skip. It's very relevant when you're talking ground-wave which has no relevance to this topic.

LOL. I’ve watched some of your videos. Your setup in the mobile isn’t anything special. It’s not outperforming any mobile I’ve run, and I haven’t even mastered my antenna system yet:D
