So I feel like my situation is pretty unique.
I am currently 24 years old, I have never had a job as I am currently on SSI (from social security) because of my anxiety.
I have a prestine driving record.
Do you think this would disqualify me from being hired?

If you have the aptitude, you can get training.
The potential for problems comes from few things.
Medications you are taking. Some may be listed by DOT/FMCSA as restricted or disqualified.
To be using medication, you would most likely be under a doctors care, they may have to provide a letter of fitness to the DOT.
Last is you, trucking can be stressful. Not everything goes smooth. How is your ability to handle stressful situations?

If you had to stop the medications in order to qualify, are you willing to do that?

    Baruman Thanks this.

I never try to discourage new drivers, but in this situation I have to recommend you look into another career. I'm not a doctor, but can't see any way to deal with your situation with anxiety and driving a commercial motor vehicle. It's just too stressful in my opinion. Good Luck to you Baruman.

I will have to check with the medicine, I most certainly could get the letter from my doctor and I’m fine with stress, it’s mostly just anxiety from big groups of people or being the center of attention.
I feel like this kind of job is perfect for me.

I appreciate your answer, I was honestly more worried about the fact of not having job history.

If you don't ask the answer will always be no.
If you don't try you'll be nagged with regret.

What do you have to lose? Find out what all you need to do to get started and go from there.

Ask your doc about this if you haven't.

Prepare for the worse, hope for the best.

I have no clue if Zoloft would dq you or not. Not something I would think would, but then...I'm not the person who decides such things.

    Good luck.

I don’t think Zoloft would disqualify you. Ssris are, I think, the most commonly prescribed drugs in the world and they’re not a controlled substance. I’m willing to bet there are plenty of truckers on those type of medications.

I think I would have to disagree with you. My daughter has anxiety. Driving is her safe place, then again she’s 16. Point is, there are different things that trigger anxiety. Hers is large crowds, public speaking etc. she’s getting better but I don’t think discourage anyone is completely fair without more details. Just my opinion, not that it’s worth much.
