We got any ham radio operators here? Just curious, if sosyou have it installed in the truck? Bougt one about 4 years ago and just never got around to taking the test, now I blew the dust off it and put it in the truck. Not a ideal set up, just wired to the CB terminal and a glass mount antenna. Picks up the 443.300 repeater fairly well. Come to find out it receives a very large band to include some sort of air traffic control. (ATC weather report on a repeated signal) Taking the study guide out this week, hopefully take the test in Feb.

What radio did you buy? I ran a 2 meter mobile in my truck for a couple of years, repeaters are pretty quiet after the cell phones came into existence.

I tried a through the glass antenna years ago. I didn’t care for it, when I put my radio on high-power the SWR was a lot higher. It received okay.

    Good luck on your test.

I have my ticket (just renewed it) but haven't been active on the bands in years. I ran base here at the house, mobile in my personal vehicles on mostly 2m and 10m.
Never did put anything in the big truck was to worried about break in and getting everything stolen.

Did not know that. Guess I'll have to order one. It's a China knock off. TYT TH-9800 Plus Quad Band Mobile Radio + Programming Cable I actually bought it used for $125, just browsing the local classifieds and stumbled upon it. As far as a glass Mount antennas go, I know they're not the best option.... But being how I'm in a company truck, that is due to be turned in around March, I just decided to buy the cheap glass Mount until I get a new truck, I used to have a dual band diamond antenna for the 144/440, but I for the life of me cannot find it.

www.AA9PW.com and other web sites have practice exams.

Tech and general were pretty easy.

When i studied the test book for “extra” i couldn’t even understand the questions let alone the answers.

So, what i did to pass the “amateur extra” license, you won’t believe this technique, but it worked. Within a week of passing my “general” exam test, i passed the ‘amateur extra” w/o even reading the questions.

The trick: don’t read the questions when studying or when taking the exam. Not even when taking the actual exam. Do not read the questions when taking the exam and don’t read the wrong answers when studying the book.

This study technique requires the written study book and can’t be done using the above link alone because the web study link doesnt let you see the answers but it can be used to test what correct answers you memorized in the book.

WHAT ?? That doesn’t sound right. How can you pass the exam w/o even reading the questions?

Those study guides have all the possible questions they are allowed to ask on the exam, as well as 3 wrong answers and 1 correct answer for each question.

Go to the back of the test guide for the correct answers. Cross out the questions and the wrong answers.

If you waste your time reading the questions and each of the wrong answers for each question, it’ll confuse you when you take the actual exam.

Just try your best to memorize the correct answers only. Don’t worry about what answer is to what question. There won’t be the same answer to 2 questions. So when you recognize an answer on the exam, it will be to that question.

Then, when you take the test, as odd as it sounds, don’t read the question. Just read the answers. You will have trained your brain to only recognize words from the correct answers.

Test this study technique with the above web site.
