Question about Hazmat trip planning.
How do I know if my route is approved for Class 9 unplacarded HAZMAT? Checked with safety multiple times and we reviewed my route but all I know is no tunnels and must follow any sign that says HM use certain route.

Found the answer to my first question on the FMCSA website. My next question is what happens if your detoured onto a no HM route? For example, I 40 is restricted through Knoxville and you list use I640. What happens if you were detoured onto I40?

You cannot take a hazmat load with diamonds on your truck into banned non HM routes. You just cannot. With that in mind and your scenario, if the fire dept is standing on your tank telling you to divert to 40, you tell em hell no, you are hazmat your truck does NOT go on 40. And you stay put until the Fire Chief gets involved and more Law etc makes a decision about you.WildTiger1990, wis bang, CorsairFanboy and 2 others Thank this. -

If you don't carry enough product to trigger placards, you are treated as any other unremarkable load.slow.rider, flood, tscottme and 5 others Thank this. -

Okay thanks. I double checked the route anyways and there are no restrictions. The load does not require placards. Just want to make sure I have all the bases covered
