    Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum and fairly new to the trucking industry. I have been driving for less then three years. This week we started getting twin pups into our terminal connected with a c-type converter dolly (dual pintle hook-ups). I have no trouble unhooking the trailers and dollies, but at the end of the day we seem to have a lot of trouble reconnecting the lead trailer to the converter. I was wondering if anyone had a step by step list of the best way to reconnect the dolly to the trailer or a link to a web site that show how to do this ( I have looked all over the internet and can't seem to find much information about it). The dolly has air ride with a dump valve, emergency brake lock, steering lock, landing gear and the trailer has air ride with a dump valve and the pintles on the trailer have anti-slack, air activated pins. The tough thing is the dolly is very heavy on the pintle and is almost impossible to move by hand, and the landing gear does not have a wheel it is just a regular landing gear. The type of things I am wondering is if I should air up the dolly when I get close or connect the air lines, should I unlock the steering to assist ligning up the pintle etc. etc. Any and all help would be appreciated. I thank all of you in advance for assisting me.
    Thanks

When to air up the dolly depends on the height of the trailer you are hooking too . If the trailer is low it's easier to get a lowered dolly under the front of the trailer than trying to crank the trailer up . If the trailer is dropped high it's better to have the dolly aired up .

For what it's worth see page 16 http://www.sgi.sk.ca/sgi_pub/instructional/professionaldrivers/05.pdf

There is also a tool called Dolly Guide to make hooking up easier . We can't post advertising links . Google Dolly Guide .

Like everthing else in your industry, do what ever it takes to keep you safe and make your job as easy as possible. I use a C dolly between a 40' tankers and a 22' tanker. So customers I have to break it down to get in and unload. I use the trailer to move the dolly around. As far as when to add air I have spring suspension on the dolly, and air suspension on the trailer, I hook up my airlines after I back under the trailer. I always set my trailer low so I pick it up when I back under it.
