When high temps are around zero and lows double digit below zero I double dose the fuel treatment. I believe it says this on the side of the jug.......

Also put the air system stuff in main line off compressor and in trailer glad hands......

I know it’s hard on air drier cartridge.... don’t care I change mine spring/fall.....and it only takes a second vs putting it in a tank.....

Back in the day I've seen drivers build a fire under the oil pan.Not a very good idea, but in very cold weather it worked. If you can get the motor to crank, a propane torch across the air intake helps, warm air starts easier than ice cold air.As long as we're on the subject of block heaters,I have a 91 DDECll pre egr 12.7 and I made the mistake of leaving the block heater plugged in(its mounted in the oil cooler) in 50°weather, now I have a nasty leak behind the filters, any thoughts.

That whole stretch from Wisconsin to Ohio is supposed to experience record temps.Lowest temps in 25yrs.I hate to say it,but the clearcutting of Canada's interior doesn't help. Wattayagonnado, lumber=$.

Does your Detroit continue to consume def in very cold temperatures?

My isx (built june2015) quits using it around -25c. No codes. I read somewhere below a certain temp it is considered ok for ecm to shut it off or otherwise ignore it not being consumed due to inability to reasonably keep def warm enough to function. For most of the country for most of the year it isn't an issue.

Iowa is supposed to be -27 Wed. night. High of -17.
In 1978 I was in Bemidji, Mn. Northern Mn. Morning temp was -38. Pickup was plugged in, started fine. Three on the tree shifter....linkage broke when I pulled the handle into 1st gear. Only had 2nd and 3rd gear that week.

Something few people point out is that getting a stone cold engine started or one that is already froze up is very hard on it and related components ....im talking below zero .
My baseline is 10 degrees and under that it's plugged in , apu on or it stays idled up running .
Less than 10 my reefer goes on continuous too.

I’ve never used a heater before moving here for work. At the end of the day when I park, it’s plugged in before leaving lol. Some don’t and I have yet to understand why with how cold it gets here. Everything I’m in gets plugged in, whether it’s the day cab or hot shot. I haul flat, not reefer, well, not anymore but I agree with your statement on that.
