There are still large areas where there isnt anything at all to get a signal to and from without a Satellite Phone. Those are nice to have but very expensive.
I must add that it is good to that Driver to have a family pulling for him. But more than likely as not, he will be ok.
One time long ago I was in the market in so. Central LA which is a walled compound of a number of acreage. Next to it would be skid row more or less. We had weapons fire that night around 10 PM and I sent the call through the satellite. Let's say that the two words shots fired typed and sent went through space and down to the company like a bolt of lightning through the network instantly. Within 15 seconds I had three bosses responding back via a form of satellite Text. It was important that I explain the situation or they roll the Law to my truck. I was told to go ahead and abandon the shipper and get out of the city. And I did.
A minor incident to be sure but it's chosen as a example as to how someone in trouble and in touch can be taken care of. No matter what happened to me, good, bad or death... everything was in order and it will be taken care of. That frees me to do what I need to do to protect the truck, it's load and myself because we were a asset to the company. I did speak to my father that night and told him alls well.
Good trucking is something special. Many a time roll through the night without any trouble. Even the worst of winter storms and so on, because there is always the enternal morning to come at sunrise to put joy back into your heart as you put the miles away.
The shortest road a trucker has is home.
Good luck to you all.AmominPA and Tombstone69 Thank this. -

Well it’s Wednesday evening, momma’s waiting by the phone; It rings but it’s not his voice; Seems the highway patrol has found a jack-knifed rig; In a snow bank in Illinois.
Tombstone69, Rideandrepair, blacklabel and 3 others Thank this. -
I don't buy the no signal excuse.
The young man just needed some peace.Rideandrepair, ZVar and IluvCATS Thank this. -
No coverage for days, ya I kinda doubt that too. Maybe a over-domineering mom? She seems nice to me but I’m not him in his new job.
Rideandrepair and BCV Thank this. -
I was having such a good time after boot camp that I didn’t write home for 3 months. Mom sent a letter to me C/O US Pacific Fleet — took another month to find me and it was hand delivered by the Skipper with strong advice to make contact or he would make me his personal project.
homeskillet, Rideandrepair and x1Heavy Thank this. -
So did you find him Momma?
Edit: never mind just saw you found him. Good deal.Rideandrepair and IluvCATS Thank this. -
If he ever finds his way to this board he’s gonna be embarrassed!
Rideandrepair, Texas_hwy_287 and Midwest Trucker Thank this.
