Correct. The people in those small towns chose to go to Walmart instead of the mom and pops because Walmart had more to offer. Shouldn’t small town dwellers benefit from the economy of scale too?

He may be exaggerating a bit. It might have allegedly happened one time years ago in folklore, so naturally this is a typical experience when you just enjoy bashing Walmart.

It's all about every penny with them.Don't get me wrong they take good care of their employees.A lot of them go to college thru the company and they hire the handicapped, right now they are pretty much the commodities king, but they count every penny and try to bully the vendors and control the help. And if they can find someone to do it cheaper they will.

That's not the point. All the mom and pop stores in the neighborhood closed down when Wally came to town.Stores that had been here for 50yrs tried to stop the building of WM,to no avail.

So what? We used to live in a world with wood stoves and rotary phones. Things (people and societies) change. For all we know, in 50 years, you will be longing for the olden days when Walmart was around and taking good care of the working class with convenient stores that had things we wanted and at prices we could afford

That's the point also, look at how many commodity brokers have come and gone, Rickels, 84 Lumber, Caldor, even Sears. You can't stop the money and things change.Survival of the fittest. The worst part of that is quality suffers and we bury ourselves in garbage. There's a commodity that will never disappear.Oh Well.
