no real standard hand signals for backing.

what i usually do, IF i feel like helping someone is, i'll say...

"i'll let you know IF you hit something, mohn back, mohn back"........

No and I agree, but some look like Bozo when standing in front of the trucks waving their arms in a circle and the wheel holder turns the other direction. It's much more entertaining then the guy standing in front of the truck and just point left or right and the wheel holder thinks he means the steer and he really means trailer or vice versa. LOL

Most just put it in reverse and don’t stop till it sounds expensive!

I can only imagine a universal backing signal for truckers..... and why do I say that?
Years ago when I got my CCO license (Certifed Crane Operater), I quickly found that only a % actually knew the universal crane hand signals. Talk about some cluster moments lol. With the greater % of drivers today I would imagine a lot of fights would break out from trying to be helpful.

But no, I’ve never heard of a universal hand signal for truckers.

This is what I was brought up on when I was a kid, military hand signs to indicate activity and millright signals when I guided someone or someone else is guilded me.

I think that the millright websites have a list of documents showing the hand signals.

I got yelled at working at one foundry who was loading me with a crane, the idiot was certified but was clueless to what the hand signals are to bring the load down, he wanted me to wave at him to tell him to lower it, I told him to ******* ****** with this waving crap.

You telling me that someone can be a certified crane operator and the signals aren't part of the certification?

In the oilfield before i have someone spot me I always ask them to go over the signals so were both clear. No mistakes that way, everyone has a similar system but it doesn't mean they're exactly the same

This ^^^. is the only safe way. Make sure both driver and guide understand the signals.

Not as much fun to watch though. lol
