Laid off and keeping a log?

If you go back to driving you only have to show hours on duty at any job for past 7 days to determine if you have hours available on the 70 hours in 8 days or 60 hours in 7 day rule .

 

If you drive to Canada you will need the previous 14 days.

Also if you keep your original hire date upon returning after the lay off the company will (should) require logs to cover the lay off. I would say you wouldn't have to account for the other job however I am not sure never had that issue come up
Logically I say you wouldn't except the previous 7-14 days

 

I have been off work a month after surgery but still turn in logs every 10 days (one sheet showing 10 days off duty ) just to keep corporate from harassing my terminal asking where my logs are .

 

Being off for medical is a little bit different than off due to layoff.

When you are laid off, you are not considered working for a company. It is one of the reasons that you are then eligible to file for unemployment. If you are filing for unemployment as laid off, there is no need to file logs with a company you do not work for.

 

Even at that though if you started for another company you would have to show the past 7days right?

 

Yeah , whenever you're required to log you have to show the past 7 days , 14 in Canada . This causes problems for expedite cargo van drivers . They are within the 10,000 lb. GVWR limit so the only time they have to log is when they carry placarded hazmat . They get that on a moment's notice and have to show their hours for the past seven days .

 

You are such a great driver . I usually ask mine to do it if they can but I never know what's really going on (HIPPA) so I don't stress until they come back to work. I never know if they are in the hospital unable to fill out a log. However they would get a missing log letter which probaby doesn't make them heal much faster, huh

 

Be glad you don't work with RV haulers . A lot of them are part timers that own ranches or are retired or something . They'll pop in after being gone a month and write 30 days off duty . They have a permanent contract too . They supposedly have their contract terminated if they go 30 days without turning in logs .
