Low rates

It’s called overcapacity, everyone and their brother went out and bought trucks when the rates were sky high, the tide has turned, and shippers and brokers have the upper hand again. If your trying to live off the spot market, good luck.

 

The rain here in Cali lately ain’t helping either lately. But that why they call it the rainy day reserved fund..... times like this. I’m at home sitting and relaxing.

 

It’s a mix of starvation at pride for me. I may be on the ramen and tap water diet, but I’ll be ###### if I haul your $1.60 freight.

 

$4 a gallon? I just paid $2.83 last week in Buttonwillow area.

 

Speed mart . I see 3.65 most places i get discount my cost 3.05

 

Wow gud for u its 3.95 at the t\a in Ontario. That's basically the average did u go2 speedy in buttonwillow for that cheap fuel

 

I haul plenty of “cheap freight” as long as it fits into my plans. I might get 2.60-3.00 a mile out of AR, a couple of 1.40-1.60 loads, and I’m in position for another money load. There is no such thing as cheap freight. Run in a way that works, not just anywhere and everywhere trying to find a high rate per mile. If you only haul for 3.00 a mile you’re not going to generate enough revenue, regardless of how good it makes you feel to say, I only haul for 3.00 a mile. Rate per mile and overall revenue almost always have an inverse relationship.
I’m glad things are coming off their high. With the outrageous rates, anyone could buy a truck and make money. When rates and volumes fall down to normal levels it rewards people who invest in efficiency and are in business to be in business, not chase dollars.

 

What's the fun in that. Why not just just drive to the gud freight an let the cheap stuff collect dust

 

Deadhead miles cost money. Why drive for free when you can put money on the truck? I have revenue and profit targets to hit and I make the money loads and the backhauls work to achieve it.

 

Work same as for people who drive for Uber, I am pretty sure most of guys just thinking about fuel expenses, and then when something goes broke they screaming at mechanics at TA "it's way oveprice and expensive"
