Are you talking about 3 people in the truck, or just yourself and trainer running as a team?

Your touching it. Drivers have been going off duty on docks for decades. They will continue to do so until the systems are setup to stop it. Since there are no rules currently in place that prevents the elogs from doing it I would not worry about doing it. Just be quiet and don't answer questions about your logs.

Actually, I want to amend my comment a bit. Log according to how your carrier wants it done. Stop listening to the know it alls in these boards!

But you can go sit in the driver lounge at a shipper or receiver while the truck is being unloaded, and log it off duty.

When I was on paper(over 15yrs)it never took more than 15min to get loaded or unloaded. Whenever I got a new logbook I'd pull the staples and stick it in a clipboard.Who needs 2 books.I(or someone like me)am the reason there's e- logs.In my own defense after I saw the black dog, if my eyelids even thought of closing I pulled over. No freight in the world is worth dying over, or worse hurting someone else. If the freight gets there before me, I PROFANITY SKIRT.

Just yourself and a trainer. If the truck is running as a team there is hardly any training going on.

I was giving serious thought to using a logbook program my last few years driving. My primary problem (why I finally decided not to) was the file output would not work with the in cab scanning I was doing. I would have had to print all my logs. This issue though to me is not a driving tired issue. I pulled a reefer. at least 50% of the time I was doing drop and hooks. However, those grocery warehouses were something I was doing waits 3 and 4 times a week. At an average wait time of 3 hours that can cost me anywhere from 12 to 15 hours off my 70. I simply refuse to do it. heck I have sit at some warehouses and do a full 10 and leave with a new 11 and 14 hour clock. NO WAY do I throw that kind of time away logging on line 4. Honestly, I had rather find something else first.

They do enjoy that free cold storage especially if they don't need the frieght. I've gone to stops 2 days in a row and drivers that were there the 1st day, were still there.

Then how are you not attending the truck sitting in a truck stop?

Because in the truck stop or home time. You are not required to attend the truck. You can go shopping or go to the movies. You can go for long walk. You cannot do those things at loading or unloading.

Try telling the pickup or delivery place you going to the movies and you will come back whenever you feel like it. Try telling them you leaving for 34 hours and you will be back later to get truck and trailer. They wouldn't let you do that. That how you know it On-Duty time.

Try telling that to a truckstop and then after the truck is towed your carrier. Getting fired for abandoning your truck. But hey, you were off duty so you can leave the truck just anywhere....

No, both cases are silly and have no relationship with real life. Plus, again, on duty has specific definitions. Not being able to leave the property isn't one of them.
