I don't quite understand this, so I'll let the great minds of this forum figure this out. Everyone probably knows by now that the Petro and TA truck stops are owned by the same company, or group of investors. That is why this doesn't make much sense. I was in Knoxville, TN yesterday, and I stopped at exit 369 off I-40 to get fuel. There is a TA and Petro at that exit and they're right across the street from each other, but the TA fuel price was 2 cents a gallon cheaper than the Petro. WTF? What kind of marketing stradegy is this?

One had their tanks filled at a cheaper price before the other one did and dropped their fuel price to refect this.GAPrincess Thanks this.

Same owner group
But under different management, its possible even different suppliers -
How long have they been owned by the same company?
-
The press release was in May of 2007

i have seen two pilots across the street from each other... maybe one was gas and the other diesel....

Evanston IL. Same exit, right across the street. Probably different franchisees...

Each location must run as profitable as it can. If the manager feels they can sell more fuel at a lower price and still generate more revenue through other sales, why not.
panhandlepat Thanks this. -
Alot of times, that is because Pilot will go in and build across the street. Then later on down the line will buy out the place on the other side, say for insatance, Williams Truck Stops.GAPrincess Thanks this.

That's right Williams had 60 centers in 15 states when Pilot bought them out . When there are 2 Pilots at 1 exit usually only 1 will have ULSD .
