I used to be a gym rat, still kind of am. One thing I am fearful of is losing my build etc. I can be disciplined with my diet. I'm not one to be eating truck stop food and my fridge will always be packed with my own stuff....Anyone here manage to coordinate stops to hit a gym a few days per week? Is this even realistically possible? I guess having a dedicated route might make that easier?

Does lifting dozens of Cinnabon donut holes count? If yes, then yes. But I admit the strength improvement process is slow on that program and I can’t recommend it for everyone

I was gonna keep push up bars and a jump rope in my truck. Never got that far but that was the plan.

    Come to the dark side...

You’ll eat truck stop food. It’s a certainty. You can eat as little as you can, but the days will come where you shut down and need to use the bathroom and the roller dogs will spookily call to you.... “driver....I’m delicious...I promise you won’t crap in your pants this time...”

    Remember this: Roller Dogs LIE!!

Lots of the bigger TA’s have little gyms in them. You can always try to get a run in. I’ve considered carrying a kettlebell, but I make do with isometrics while driving and doing some yoga in the shower. I really should do more. If you do OTR or work in a big region getting back to places you know have a facility can be tough.

I can see if you’re an O/O you’ve already made a smarter choice and can get a better rhythm than us lowly company drivers.

Finding a good grocery store that you can park at can be a problem. Actually finding anywhere to park is a constant topic on here.

Someone on here was talking about 24 hour fitness or whatever. I think it’s a viable option especially with the way your hours will be all over the map. Still parking can problematic.

    Peace, love, and roller dogs.

I started carrying resistance bands with me, even though I run local. I have a membership at the local 24 hour gym, and I use it when I can, but for the busy times when there's no way, I use those resistance bands. They're not a perfect solution by any means, but they help.

Actually, I started with bungee cords. I'd hook them to the seat base, and on longer trips, I'd pull on them. Then I bought the bands on Amazon for like $25 and have been using them.

Been digging around on this subject. You can get a versatile bench that folds pretty flat, likely you could strap it to the truck, or against an inside wall. Then get those all in one dumbbell that can adjust from 1-100 pounds. You can basically get in the basics at any stop with this setup. Just take out the bench, set it up and do every type of dumb bell exercise there is. The dumbbells don't take up any room at all.

I've got a picture of Sly Stallone in my head, from Over the Top.I used to bring a bicycle with me.Great exercise and great way to see the sights, without dragging the truck along.I was delivering oversized concrete panels to the Bronx Zoo(for the gorilla enclosure),had to layover in the zoo at night, that's when I got the idea. I rode around the zoo every chance I could. Got to know the security guards and some of the animals, too.Delivered 8 out of 20 loads.Made some money and had a great time.Ahhh, the joy of trucking.
