I am 55 years old, grew up on a farm/feedlot, spent 32 years in IT and going to change. My wife’s job allows her to work remote all of the time and we have no ties to home. We have 6 kids that are all married and live in other parts of the country. We love to travel so taking what we have saved and looking to change it up.

I am enrolled in a CDL school and the end game is to own a big bunk sleeper and haul (preferably AG) OTR.

I am sure several will say don’t do it but we have talked for years about it. We will go forward just looking for ways to make it a success. Hard work and hours away are not an issue.

BTW if you can’t tell i have no CDL/OTR experience.

Where should I look to find a company that i can lease on with?

You can buy a truck, but probably will go into shock when you price insurance for a driver with no experience.
You can't take the truck off the sales lot until it's insured.
Become a member of www.OOIDA.com which is a business website for the owner-operator.
An owner-operator is a small business owner.
Recommend being a company driver for a couple of years to learn the way of the roads. Take the wife with you; many companies allow the wife to ride along.
Where is your location; state & nearest city? We need this information in order to recommend companies that hire in your area and that let you take your wife with you.

We are currently by Lincoln Nebraska but we don’t need to be in the area if it is a big bunk and she can ride with me.

    Thanks!

Start off with a company first for some time to get your feet wet then buy your own truck. There are companies that will hire you and allow for you to take your wife with you. That way you get the enjoyment of the road plus learn the job without being overwhelmed off bat at the cost of keeping the truck running.

If she is a remote worker, remember that you see driving, she may have issues with conductivity and if she is one the phone with others, it isn't just a distraction to you but it is irritating for others on the other end of the phone.

Thanks, her time is flexible and mostly done on her computer without the need for constant connection but a couple of time a day.
