How does UPS Freight keep drivers???

    The most hours I had on my weekly check was 68.5. That was AFTER they took out their half hour for lunch each day, so I actually ran over 70 for the week. After taxes, I made $1,003.

    That. Is. Trash.

    For a pension, medical benefits, paid days off, holiday pay and being home nightly after a couple years I dont think it's to bad...

    You have to have 1800 hours in a year for it to count as a 'good' year towards your pension. The company tried raising it to 2400 in the latest contract. Friggin bums. I predict that next contract, they try to eliminate the pension for freight drivers. PTO only happens starting after your first year. You only get a week PTO for the first couple years I believe. Benefits come after 90 working days. So for instance, it took me 5 full months before I became eligible. The coverage is decent and you dont pay for them. Other companies, like fedex, charge you a couple hundred a month for comparable coverage. Holiday pay only happens after 1 year of employment. And being home nightly is ok I guess, but you have no home life except for your weekends.

    No surprise though ,millennial's don't want to work in the first place lol...

    the starting out at the bottom and low pay is all agreeable to me. the only turn off for personally is line haul dry van, and not being self gratifying for myself.
    probably stupid of me but i would rather flatbed in the -30 degree weather we had last week

    Feeder top rate is $42/hr after year #5. Their seniority is crazy, too. Some terminals will let their small pack guys move over to feeder and let their seniority follow them. So say you've been working the slop for 5 years, slowly working your way up, you can have some pencil neck from small pack mover over and bump you on the list lol.

    IMO, the schedule of a regional job is comparable to what you'd have working at ups.

    If I could get permament UPS small pack feeder gig, I would be on it like a hobo on a ham sandwich. I wouldn't bother with UPSF, going there from FXF would be a downgrade.

    They are the same in my area. FedEx as well. Start off at 21 an hour, mediocre equipment, and most of the work is given out on a seniority base. Right now fedex guys on the low end are only making 25-30 hours a week. No thanks. I’ve heard the same thing, if you stick with it it will be worth it in the end but I am not trying to start off at the bottom like that.

    That's a very low starting pay where are you at? Where I am the starting pay is almost $23 per hour. We are slow right now, but I still get at least 10 hours of OT a week. 2 weeks ago I've had 17 hours of OT and I have been here for less than a year.

    If I could get at least 40hrs per week I would be all over that. It would be a nice increase from the $16.50 per hour I make now with a company that has nowhere near the long term stability of UPS.

    As bad as you think the pay and conditions are, there is worse out there so UPS will always keep drivers.
