It's as brutal as you make it . Just absorb everything you're told and be patient. Their is a ton to learn . Proper techniques to drive , backing ,learning to use Qualcomm, teip planning, how to use the most out of your hours and adjusting to life on the road
How brutal is the 4-6 week training period?

A couple years ago a forum member posted how should prepare to team drive. What you do is put a heavy object in the washing machine, then set it on permanent spin cycle. Break out your sleeping bag and sleep on top of the out of balance washing machine. When you need to use the bathroom, get on your winter gear and walk around the block before using the bathroom. Walk around the block again before crawling into your sleeping bag on the shaking washing machine. Do this for a week.
The only thing missing is the good side of things.otterinthewater, x1Heavy and elmerjfudd Thank this. -

Perhaps I have contributed to a slightly off the rails scary story version of training.
It isn't.
It's a temporary situation. You can choose to grit your teeth and ride it out, or you can choose to be a sponge and absorb as much as you can from your trainer while you are in his or her truck. The wiser course of action is the latter.
It ends, and when it does you are assigned a truck and you go solo. Heaven help you if you didn't pay attention during training.
This ISN'T at all like going on a road trip in a car. You had better be prepared for your first few months going solo, otherwise you might gain infamy in some viral YouTube video tearing up your truck trying a U-turn where physics say you can't.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
Most people cannot be bothered to show up at the doc within 10 minutes of appt time.
You will be trying to in some cases meet the to the minute appt time required of you across the entire Nation regardless of weather and conditions. Often regardless of your hunger and discomfort. You after all chose to get involved in this thing. Get going, yer late. =)LoSt_AgAiN and Lepton1 Thank this. -
Go find a good milk hauling company like the one I work for.
No sharing a truck. After you get your cdl and can show the company qualifier you know what you are doing , they will send you out for a couple weeks shadowing a trainer in another truck.
No way/ no how I could live in a truck with another person.
Make sure you specify the hi-def 40 inch TV and ice maker option.Last edited: Feb 6, 2019
