That is a ridiculous comparison. physics doesn't work that way. As I've said, jbolts are perfectly fine securement assuming you use enough of them for the weight being hauled but no way in hell are 6 of them they even in the same ballpark as a 2.5 inch solid steel kingpin shank.

Some real numbers. A 3/8ths course thread grade 8 bolt has a minimum tensile strength of 11600 lbs. Two 3/8ths add up to 3/4. So according to your statement should be equal to a 3/4 bolt. A course thread 3/4 grade 8 has a minimum tensile strength of 50100. Much more than 2 3/8ths bolts combined.

Plus the j bolts may only be holding the cover over a permanently mounted gen set. At least the sets we brought out of N.C to Edmonton 4 years ago where that way.

If it matters, a kingpin is also forged, rather than case hardened.

Humblepie, SAR, Oxbow and 2 others Thank this.

    Perhaps...

He was empty though, so a bit less top heavy.

    Feedman and BigBob410 Thank this.

6 3/8 diameter bolts do not equal 2 1/4”. That’s not how circles work.

Just so you know it doesn't work that way...
The surface area of 6 3/8" bolts equals a bit over 1/2 of a square inch. 0.6627 square inches to be exact.
The surface area of a kingpin is 3.14159 square inches.

That doesn't even take into account the types of metal (For example W1 is softer than 1095, which is softer than 4140) between a kingpin and a bolt to determine the WLL rating of each....

    Feedman and Humblepie Thank this.

    That’s because a 3/4 bolt is 4 times the size of a 3/8’s.

Yes in surface area. In Scotty logic its only twice as big. 3/8ths plus 3/8ths is 6/8ths.

That’s true, the good thing about him is when he’s wrong and you point it out he doesn’t come back he just pretends it didn’t happen.
