A Komatsu CD110 crawler handler. Basically a rubber tracked excavator, but with a dump body instead of excavator equipment.

    cke and Oxbow Thank this.

Maybe 5th or 6th time tarping. Fence poles. The 4th load on my new to me truck. I love it so far.

Yes, but if I use the deeper setting, it tends to strike the catwalk on some of the more severe transitions. The way it is now, with the kingpin in the front hole, I run the fifth wheel in hole 8 and get 12,100/33,500/36,480 with a gross of 82,100. Which leaves me just enough room to load the hammer on the back of the trailer in a rack we built. On the job if I HAVE to, I can run the fifth wheel forward and put 13.2 on the steers but I dont like to. I still stretch it out when it comes time to relocate. Once I get H rated steer tires on here, I will probably just put the fifth wheel in hole 2 and leave it there. But yeah, as it is, sometimes it takes a four of five point turn to get to where the equipment needs to go. I am talking 12 foot wide county roads through the woods with 90 degree turns every so often. Sometimes I might have a finger width of room at my inside and outside corners. I am paid by the hour so I don't have a lot of time pressure, and that helps a lot.

Yes, that’s to keep it from articulating during transit and while securing. I’ve always taken them off during loading or unloading. I would venture to say never drive with it on....

Also, looking at this tractor, I have almost
4 1/2 feet of frame behind the rearmost position of the 5th wheel, so I have no room to use the deeper kingpin setting unless I slide the 5th wheel nearly all the way back. Where I run it now is just about the best compromise I can come up with and not have to reconfigure anything to haul any of our equipment. It's kind of an oddball set up. 2016 CAT CT660 with about the same WB as my old W900, and it weighs more than anything but maybe a long WB Western Star. It has a C13 with an 18 speed Eaton. If my biggest issue is just getting it around corners I am not doing too bad overall.

Do what you want but I wouldn’t hesitate to put 14,000 on those tires.

I do put that much weight forward at times, especially when I need to put the truck somewhere it doesn't really fit. I just don't do it running down the big roads. Don't want the fine or the CSA points. I have seen tickets a few years back from a guy that was written up for having 12500 tires on 14000 axle. His actual steer weight that day was like 12100. Never understood that one. I know the extra weight wont really hurt the tires, especially in the wintertime, and it feels real solid rolling down the road, but I just dont wanna get into a pissing match with the folks that write the tickets.

Been lucky so far, but I figure I am already running permitted loads (OW/OD) dont need an equipment violation. I get paid by the hour. I get 10 hrs pay on days where all I do is drive 5 to 6 to move to new site. I have all kinds of slack timewise. I dont even need to weigh my truck anymore and I can get my axles within 200 lbs or so of where I want them.

    cke Thanks this.
