Just had a tight back into a cold storage facility. Actually a drop in the yard. PU another at the dock. Yard tight. Approach blind side. Did a U turn. Backed her in like a pro. About 6 inches on sight side corner going in. Got out just to check. Went in beautiful. I’m actually becoming a real driver.

Very good. Now is the time to be extra careful though. When you start thinking you are doing real good is when things screw up.

Boy did I just learn!
That trailer I picked up in MN. Trailer tandems we’re all the way forward. Couldn’t adjust. Couldn’t get to the switch. Covered with ice.
Weights...
S....11760
Truck T... 28360
Trailer T... 39280
Total... 79400
Fuel about 5/8, def 1/2, reefer 3/4 full.
Went to shop. They removed the ice from the trailer tandem switch. Weighed adjusted there...
truck tandems exactly 34.... trailer good...forget rest. Figured I’d hold off on any fuel. Could adjust when I do. Did pull trailer tandems forward two notches. Filled everything up. Surprised...
S... 12040
Truck T... 33240
Trailer T... 33420
Total... 78700
Boy did I lose weight with that ice gone. Yes I drove straight south.
Bear in mind. I added weight fueling.cleanbyrd, SingingWolf and Lepton1 Thank this. -
I just drove through Minnesota this morning, westbound on I-94. Delivered a frack pump in Dickinson, ND. Caught a Lyft to Bismarck and fly back to OKC tomorrow morning.
I was surprised how good the road conditions were, considering the general blizzard conditions. This customer specced their truck right. 550 hp Cummins with a thirteen speed. It made pulling hills easy at 97K gross.cleanbyrd and WesternPlains Thank this. -
I learned today. Had to drop trailer at wallyfworld. Then pick it back up.
Well... I felt something wasn't right when I hooked back up. I backed against it twice just because of that. Then pulled forward twice to test it. I went over to a dumpster to drop off some wood left in the trailer. Went to leave the dumpster. Dropped the darn trailer.
I ended up getting it up. Used my drop suspension. The end of the truck frame is made so you can do it. But it's not the greatest. I did get it back. It was partially loaded.
Also what I learned....
Had two drivers to help me. First one I told him I had help coming. Just lift the trailer so I could crank down the landing gear. It would be better than trying to get it with the truck.
Second one came when I was doing it. Helped me. Good guys....drivers. I should have just listened to the first guy and tackled it on our own then.
Also what I learned...
Jostler driver couldn't be responsible. Wouldn't even try to lift it for me. Wallyworld irresponsible. He told the Swift mechanics there. "They would take care of it" ... Talk about bad attitudes. Reminded me of last job I had. They just told me to get a tow truck. Then some screwball had to sit there and watch from a golf cart. No help. Just watching. No responsibility.
All I needed was at least a forklift to lift the front so I could jack the landing gear down. Better than what I had to do.
Gee... Last week I was at a wallyworld that had Crete for steady there. Trucks breaking down all over the place because of the cold. Those Crete mechanics where out there helping everyone they could. Only trucks towed were ones they couldn't help. One mechanic was banging on frozen brakes next to me. Did he worry about not wanting to be responsible about what he might do to those brakes? No! These Swift mechanics didn't give a hoot.
I also gotta look closer at the front pin on the 5th wheel when I hook up. Make sure it's good and pulled back hard. I was hooked. But then came loose. And I pull checked it twice! I think I can overcome this by checking that 5th wheel good when I hook up. Not just looking at the jaws in place. But making sure the mechanism is set well and locked. I"m rather weary of it now. But that front bolt/pin is down hard against the 5th wheel now.cleanbyrd, SingingWolf, kemosabi49 and 1 other person Thank this. -

Have you people noticed. The media is so full of gossip and manipulative deceit. They’re putting the National Enquirer out of business.

That’s why I don’t like people telling me things like “gee that was impressive” or whatever.WesternPlains Thanks this.
