Excessive regulations are never good, bare minimum regulations are barely good, I know there's a lot of people who disagree with me on that.
Why is anybody who needs 10 hours a day to sleep and eat driving a truck, that's the real question. I don't know about you but I don't sleep ten hours a day at home unless I'm sick, and there's not a hell of a lot to do at most truckstops for 3 or 4 hours.
Aren't regulations a good thing?

Agree with you there. Theres alot of times I find myself bright eyed and bushy tailed staring at my elogs waiting on my 10 to reset thinking how ridiculous it is i'm sitting for 2 or 3 hours wasting good sleep when I could be running.Rideandrepair, Joetro and motocross25 Thank this.

They are needed to a point but there are a lot of aspects of the current HOS rules that are just stupid in their inflexibly
For example
Why is a 7:55 minute rest break not good for ANYTHING?
Why are two 15 minute breaks not sufficient to allow you to continue past 8 hours???
Why does the fact I only was able to work 4 hours, 8 days ago determine that I can only work 4 hours today? When bad weather is coming, I’m supposed to sit during great road conditions and wait [until midnight] for the weather and roads to turn to #### before I can roll again?Last edited: Feb 9, 2019

Here’s a theory.
How about different HOS for sleeper trucks vs day cabs?
After all, the two just don’t operate under the same conditions. Sleeper guys can shut down where ever they park, while local guys have such things a commute to deal with.Rideandrepair, motocross25 and shogun Thank this. -
Seems like some would like more regulations. They do have the 100 air mile rule already. Now if you are in a sleeper truck and you running local if they made new rules saying only day cabs you will not like that.

The only thing in hos the 100 mile rule changes is no 30 minute break. All other hos must still be followed. For that 30 minute saving one looses 2 hours they can work, if they choose to use that provision.

It would almost make sense that instead of a 30 minute all at the same time to be changed to a 120 minute in 11 hours of driving total may be taken adding to the total allowed to drive so no rush is needed, then drivers can avoid rush hours and make the hurry up beat the clock gone.

The bottom line is this. In the trucking industry, there are many types of jobs & people. Yet one set of rules for everyone & every job. One set of rules wont work for every situation. Just because it will work for Jim Bob, don't mean it will work for James Robert.
What if our founding fathers set one set of rules for the President, Congress, Senate, USAG, all 4 branches of the military, etc, etc. Lets say that all... yes... ALL branches of government had to go by one set of rules in one little green book????
Now wouldn't that be a mess?
Now hold on.... all the trucking industry has to go by the same rules in our little green book. The trucking industry probably covers as many different types of jobs, positions, types of work, etc as the US Government does, so whats the difference.
I mean, If I had time, I could probably name several hundred thousand different types of jobs, trucks, trailers, industries etc that all operate differently enough that they could easily need a completely different set of rules than others.
Its ridiculous that every truck(ing) related situation imaginable in the US is governed by one set of rules.Last edited: Feb 9, 2019

More flexibility would be nice but it is what it is.
The bigger problem is drivers that try to treat HOS the way they do speed limits. You don't always have to do the max.
