Ok then this is a must have buy for you. I keep this in my truck and you can have your cold chicken breast piping hot within 15 minutes. This is a must have and it’s incredible. Don’t buy liners. I use tinfoil and just wrap whatever I’m about to eat in tin foil and throw it in

Gyms at truck stops, do they have them?

Find a job that offers a workout. Get paid to keep in shape.
A P&D driver lifts all kinds of stuff in the course of a day. Flatbed guys do a lot of pulling and lifting also.
I got out of OTR quickly because I could feel my body losing it.
As was said, local work gives you time to do what you want with off time instead of being held hostage in fatso land.alds Thanks this. -

Unless you really want to do it, OTR exp isn't necessary to get local work.
Just spoke with a company, they do a type of tanker I have no experience with, my variety of "specialty" experience had them calling, not the miles.Miss Ed Thanks this. -
I have seen about 3 truck stops with gyms and they were all petros. Have never seen a single soul in any of those gyms. Not all Petros have gyms. One in Ohio of I80, the massive airport truck strop, and another Petro in Birmingham NJ. The 3rd I cannot remember. And that's it. I've probably been in a few hundred different stops and only seen about 3.
I would treat my body better if I didn't run teams and always on the go and lift some weights, take long walks and the like.
I figure I have 2 choices. I can continue to run teams maybe for Old Dominion, make a lot of money and retire in 10 years... if my investment acumen holds up, and retire fat and then get back in shape... or I can drive solo and retire in 15-20 and be healthy the whole way.alds Thanks this. -
I’ve tried everthing under the sun to do OTR and stay in shape bit. I was a big gym person before I became a trucker. After I did the team thing I transferred into flatbed. I lost a lil weight but was still massive. Finally I went local to Foodservice and lost a ton of weight -80lbs and hit the gym 5-6 days week. I was making way better money then OTR also. Now that I’m less active with LTL but home everyday I hit the gym regularly and I make more money then doing the OTR thing. I rather do it this way then when I was OTR. I wouldn’t go back OTR unless they started building gyms at Truckstops. But that won’t ever happen cause there really isn’t a good market for that. They could build gyms and drivers would be too lazy to use them or be too cheap to want to pay for them.TravR1 Thanks this. -
Those OD guys always give me space when they pass and don't cut me off after passing. It's appreciated.Radman Thanks this. -

That being said, I have tried exercise OTR and have had some success. This is what I learned.
1) Stick to a quick 20 min cardio workout. There is not enough time for an elaborate workout, except on a 34hr restart.
2) Do this at least 3 times a week.
3) If you miss one workout in one week, add an additonal workout the next week.
4) Fuel 1,000+ gal at Pilot/FJ to have one free shower every day. Pilot/FJ is the largest truck stop chain in the US by number of locations.
5) If—and only if—you can pull off this 20 min cardio workout, then expand your workout.
I used a weight vest to increase the difficulty of my cardio workout. This was my routine:
1) Stretch
2) Walking (4 min)
3) Jogging (4 min)
4) Walking (1 min)
5) Jogging (6 min)
6) Walking (4 min)Last edited: Feb 10, 2019
