Probably one of those things love it til it breaks. Then about ready to set the truck on fire.
I agree with some other posters...big company buy them by 100 at a time easier to deal with some failures. Small company can't have that bad luck if they get a bad one. So take safe choice. Already enough possible headaches with emissions.

Fast food joint in every pilot, fj, or fuel stop has nothing to do with it. Hard to eat a meal today without some sort of processed food has nothing to do with it. Food is so much more plentiful now than 40-50 years ago has nothing to do with it either right.

Ever notice how people just don't use their head before they speak now days? As long as they are putting somebody down it's all good right?

Do you still drive a 2 stick transmission ? Or you using technology and have simple 1 stick.

The computers shift the gears, they tell me when I can drive and need to stop. The computers tell me when to turn left or right. The computers can apply the brakes(ABS). The computers do everything. Now just wait for the computers to drive the truck. LoL

About self driving trucks they are already on route. Soon they will replace the drivers. Only question is If those can operate cheaper than drivers with low pay

I would if I found a good truck priced right with two sticks I would drive it. In the meantime, I have the most reliable and best transmissions available which are the Eaton Fuller manuals. Multiple trucks with over a million miles on those boxes so take your sensors and your "technology" and shove it. I don't have any home makers or work visas on the payroll so I don't need them.

I love it, haven't laughed so hard in a long time, this thread is great and will probably get better. The way I see it is you can't stop progress(or regress, depends wether the glass is half full). I learned to drive truck on a 1954 Autocar, 5sp nonsynchro trans with a 2speed rear (cable operated). Double clutch every gear and keep the cable well oiled or else forget about shifting that rear. No wonder the bone in my left leg is twice the size it should be.Bone spurs gotta love them. I haven't had the pleasure of driving an autoshift yet, but when I do I'm gonna drive the s//!+ out of it. Reminds me about the post where the computer didn't know to shift and the poor driver was getting towed all over the place cause he couldn't get it in gear. I want to open a shop and specialize in autoshifts, that's where the real money is. As the debate goes on, I figure I've got another 10 good years of trucking in me, that is, until the Terminator takes my job.Well I'll still have my stick to play with, lol.

lots of heavy haul here going to autos. I'd love one, but I'm not a fan of anything emissions related. so it's a stick for the rest of my foreseeable future in this biz lol.

I would bet there is a lot less driveline related failures with an auto compared to manual.

Or maybe it's because in the last year of working this local job out of 20+ year drivers (about 30) 5 of them had knee replacements. As much stop and go as these trucks do, I'm grateful for my auto so there is a very less likely chance of me needing a new knee because of the clutch.

For the OTR guys that shifts twice a day, sure either one works, and if you need a piece of machinery to feel all mainly I have no problem with that. On the other hand I don't relate my manhood to mechanical equipment.

Our fleet loves to throw U-joints on the auto trucks. Since we got the autos about 6 months ago, for 30 trucks all in the 400k to 500k range we've dropped an axle from bad U Joint 4 times I know of. That could just be a maintenance issue though as this company does crappy maintenance.
