Well I called werner yesterday for a status update on my app, nothing has changed on my application from the first app back in . When I called about the status 2 weeks ago, I was told "we aren't hiring students from your area" So i figured i was approved, they said a recruiter will call me when something opens up. Now I called yesterday, and Im told my app Denied, I asked why and they wont give a reason because of "confidentiality". Every applicant should be given a reason why they were denied. which is bull, so why would I have been approved once and not approved again? Something sounds fishy here.
remember no tickets in 7 years 1 accident in the last 3 years(which is already over 2 years old) no criminal record, never used illegal drugs, never had license suspended or revoked. top student in class when I graduated.
Something sounds fishy here.
I would really like to know what the records are of people they are hring right now, if its worse then mine, I would really have to question them as a company

It's not just Werner who isn't hiring, very few are... And the drivers who are hired have experience and extremely clean driving records.
If people would start paying attention to what's going on with the economy they would understand why.
Most of the big trucking companies are cleaning house in regard to employees with a less than stellar work record. And, it's not just drivers who are seeing change, it's happening to people on the inside too.
Regarding government money to the trucking companies, what about the outside schools that keep telling people that they should go to school so they can get a good paying job in the transportation industry? You really can't blame it all on the trucking companies, if you think about it there are a lot of other factors involved.
Most of us are chasing the brass ring, but right now it's just not obtainable in the way we would like for it to be.
I was at the truck show in Louisville and talked to about 25 recruiters, 3 were accepting applications from grads, the other ones weren't taking applications unless the driver has experience, a spotless personal and driving record.
I got a call from one of the recruiters today who told me that if I wanted to wait until mid July I might be considered.
So, it's the entire industry, not just Werner. If they don't take you, keep looking or find a job outside the industry. -
I finished my 300 hours of training and am going home to wait for something to open up. I was told by driver placement they aren't hiring on 48 anymore and won't be for a "long time". They are also "reducing" the size of it, but wouldn't call it a layoff. So now I just wait, without pay and call in everyday(they said once a week, but i'm persistant) hoping I happen to call at the right time when something is available in my area. So right now you can only get a position from your region, they go by zipcode, unless you want to get something out of another area but you then would have to take your home time out there. On a good note, I heard the office personell saying they are stopping orientation. Good because I hope they finally decided it wasn't nice to hire on a student without actually having a job for them. This is definately starting to get frustrating....
