It would seem to me that if they stayed on top of these things, there would be less down time. Rack 'em and stack 'em, but get them fixed. Of course, my learners permit is only 2 hours old, so what do I know....LOL
Thats a big selling point with these guys....the great equipment...once one gets there foot in the door, they see its not all rosey. I say this understanding that...yes...stuff breaks.
With regards to turning the tarps inside out....what a waste of time and effort. Don't get me wrong...we like to have fun with the new guys in the military...but that seems to me to be more trouble than what its worth.
I am still interested in TMC, though. Its too bad they collapsed the hiring area...I am on the wrong side of I-95 in North Carolina. One of the instructors at school told me to call them anyway...problem is I am staying put ( in the Navy) until this economy starts to turn around.
If you guys are ever traveling up or down Hwy 17 the Wal-Mart in Elizabeth City, NC allows trucks to park over night. They mostly park near the gas station. Big parking lot. I have seen TMC there before. Also, there is a rest stop about 2 miles from the VA/NC border with truck parking.
I am off to study air brakes more in depth. "Bumper to Bumper: The Complete Guide to Tractor-Trailor Operations"

A cplmac2 since you been with them on your own how many miles are you getting if you don't mind me asking and which are you on percentage or miles and also which is better?
-
I haven't been on my own long enough to say how many miles I get. Last week I got 400, this week I got 2000. Who knows what next week will hold. I'm on mileage, 550 of my miles this past week were bounce miles and you get paid for all of them at the going rate with mileage. On percentage you only get paid for them when they top 150 on a particular run, and you only get .20/mile for them. I asked my FM to run me, and I haven't gotten a load longer than 465 miles yet, in fact I've made two runs this week less than 270 miles. 270 miles at .30/mile is not worth a full day of your time.

Thought I would chime in here as I haven't been around in a while. Hope cplmac and firna are doing good. I finally landed at PTL. Not the greatest company on paper but they have been treating me very good and the miles have been pretty good.
Got home for 3 days last week and picked up all my stuff.
Ran hard for 2 days and now im sitting in Memphis IN with under a load to deliver monday. Like i said just wanted to say hi -

Cplmac2 other then them not running you like you want to right now hows is the company treating you, how often do you get home and how quick can you move up on pay?
-
They have hometime available for me regularly, even though I'm not interested. They actually wanted me to OOR 250 miles for hometime last weekend. I didn't have the hours to make it home Friday night so I spent the weekend at Walcott and took a reset then headed the opposite direction of my home to deliver in NE. The company has treated me the same as everyone else, like a number. I've got plenty of complaints so far, but like I said before I don't think it's fair for me to go on about all of them just yet, I've only been out on my own for two weeks. They've been keeping me rolling, but I haven't had any runs over 500 miles yet and made a run last week of 250 miles. Mostly my runs have been right around 400 miles give or take.

So how many miles you average a week with them only running you them short miles, put it like this do you average between 800 to 1000$ a week and you did say you was on mileage right, did you hear anything about freight picking up? I know im asking alot of questions but i just want to make that right move.
