I’ve read what I could find here in regards to the topic at hand and I’m seeing good results with the experiences others have posted. Here’s my thing, I work in an profession that is physically demanding on my body and I’m approaching 50 years old. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still in great shape and my recent life insurance physical says the same, both internal body and external, but I need to move to a career that I can retire from. My felony is 28 years old and I’ve not had any criminal charges/convictions since, 1 speeding ticket 10 years ago, no accidents ever. I should have no problem passing a DOT physical and I have no drug use.
As you might have guessed I’m looking to make this career change to driving truck. I’m in Arizona so I have the Swift Corporation available and from my research they train/hire felons. I would enjoy the free CDL training from them, but the job I’m aiming for would be a local one where I’m home daily. I also have no problem paying to go to a CDL school if necessary.
So to my question, how many challenges can I expect to find a job with having this 28 year old felony and being a new driver? And for those curios, my felony does not violate any vehicle/child//murder/kidnapping laws. It was theft and forgery. Forgery being I created a fake drivers license and theft was from a vehicle.
Another felony record question.

I’m in the Phoenix area.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Dude, I'll be blunt, who cares. 28 years and just for those, not really an issue.
Go get your cdl by any means, if it takes going to a mega, then get a year or so in, then apply to the companies around you and move on, you can do it.
Be honest and you will be working soon.Dan.S, austinmike and Rideandrepair Thank this. -

Just remember there is NOTHING FREE ...my a suggestion would be to get your CDL on your own(paying in out of pocket) , in that case you would be tied up with a mega for X amount of time..on the other hand , good luck!!Rideandrepair Thanks this. -

28 years is a awful long time to be hanging onto stuff. Particularly the bad. IT must have been really bad. Let it go.
Acknolwedge it when you need to but depending on the DQ'ing list presented by FMCSA against certain Felonies you should be good to go.
Most truckers burn out the body by the mid 50's it's sometimes the way it happens, Some later, some earlier. It was earlier in my case. Ive repaired some of the damage pernamently but not all of it just yet. I still have some work to do still.
It's one thing to be getting going trucking when you are old and wise enough not to be involved with lumping freight. That is why I will run Medicine. They take care of it in a HURRY. like within 20 minutes it's off the trailer, reloading takes a little bit longer for cardboard going back to memphis. Shipping consists of drop and hook. And occasionally a apple load that needs a day to get to atlanta and unloaded in a few minutes and back to little rock the next day is a welcome run sometimes depending on what I am doing.
You only have one spine. You protect that where possible And particularly one CDL A. You buy that cash always. So it's YOURS free and clear. Particularly with the deadline right now to begin renewals with that enhanced star on the licensing all over the USA. Without that star you do not board domestic flights, enter bases or canada etc.BUMBACLADWAR and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
Arent you GLAD it's no problem for YOU. I say 99.9% of the people who have no money it is a hella problem.BUMBACLADWAR and Rideandrepair Thank this. -

I'll get some more trucking company names for you. Many hire new grads even though the ads may say "experience required." They bend the rules on "experience required" all the time for a good applicant, just like Clean harbors did.
Southwest Truck Driver Training in Phoenix is a good school and you can pay cash or finance.
