    I just want to thank and encourage truckers to do what a truck driver did this Friday. I was traveling North on 95 around Flagler county when there was a back up because of an accident. The traffic was inching along and of course there were the jerks who think that they shouldn't have to wait and drive on the shoulder of the road to get ahead. Well in front of me a trucker had enough I guess and moved his truck so that he was in between the right lane and the shoulder so no one could do that anymore. I thought that was the greatest thing I ever seen! There were a few cars that pulled up behind him from a distance and they were pissed off because they now were stuck. The car behind the trucker wouldn't let them back in the lane and the trucker wouldn't let them pass so they were stuck on the shoulder the whole time. I hope more truckers do this. It is very annoying when people think that they shouldn't have to inch along with the rest of us. Thank You Trucker!

    I noticed that you just made your first post on this forum, and I welcome you.:wave:
    There might have been a problem, though, if an emergency vehicle had wanted to use the shoulder and it was blocked. Glad that it worked out for the best in this case.

    Yeah, I thought of that but it was several minutes after it happened and it looked as though the emergency crew and tow truck had been there awile. Still, I agree with you and it could have been bad but it wasn't this time and I was really glad that he did that. Thanks for the welcome!

    Ahh, yes, the good old traffic cop manuever. Thankfully nothing bad came of it, but it sure is fun to play traffic cop from time to time.

    No, I dont agree with you. That is one of the most idiotic things I have ever seen truckers do. A truckers job is to drive a truck. If you want to do traffic control become a police officer.

    You have to do that manoever in tandem with another truck, or else, as this case, the truck gets stuck on the shoulder by the car not letting him back in. At least with another truck, they will let you back in and traffic will keep moving.

    Usually we do this when approaching construction zones, and we are going to lose a lane ahead. We'll go side by side at a slightly slower, but constant speed, letting the traffic ahead go through the stop and go of merging. Then as you approach the lane end, the guy in that lane inches ahead of the guy in the through lane, and pulls in at the arrow or barrel. Then you don't have to screw around with 4-wheelers cutting in on you. Some might say this is being a traffic cop, I call it flow control.

    Not sure if blocking the shoulder was good thing, however other drivers could have repaid them with not allowing them to come into the lane further down and let their happy arse sit.

    Actually, a four wheeler actually did help him so he could get back in! I am telling you it was great! if he needed to he could have got in at any time. He was part way still in the right lane. Actually after we got close to the accident the trucker did pull in and that driver did squinch in. That sucked but at least he had to wait for awhile............I understand it is not the truckers job to do this but it was satisfying. It drives me crazy that some people are so arrogant. I wouldn't have the nerve to do it but I am glad he (trucker) did.

    I don't see how it's idiotic. I do this when I can to avoid the line "cutters" from making traffic worse. I don't consider it being a "cop" by any means. I just sick of being pushed further back into traffic by impatient drivers. These are the same ones who won't let you over because they don't want to be behind a truck.

    If someone gets stuck in a closing lane, that's one thing. But to see them coming from a mile back hauling tail up to the front? Now, that's idiotic.

    Today I had a flatbedder fly by my schoolbus in a 45 mph zone. The drybox in front of me saw him coming and pulled over into the lefthand lane to slow him down. Yes he was going waaaaaaaay too fast, but that maneuver from the drybox could have really been a mess as it was happening on a metal bridge with no shoulder to get out of the way. Drivers are not traffic patrol. We need to report violators; not create potential accidents trying to stop them.
