It could be a dropped liner. Key word is could. Honestly its likely, but let's rule out all the easy and cheap stuff first. To many mechanics get tunnel vision. They get an idea and theur brain focuses on it over looking everything else. Im guilty of this at times to.
Get that oil sample done and go from there.

I had a very similar issue. If it was cold outside, I could fill the parking lot with smoke and it would smoke all day. A good friend recommended an injector cleaner and after running 4 gals, truck hasn't smoked since. (It's been a week) The truck sat for 4 days over the weekend and I was sure it was going to smoke like crazy, but barely anything. Just food for thought, but you might want to try 2 bottles.

Waiting on oil samples results... I saw a black ( oil?) stain on the top of my exhaust pipe, this morning, like a spit up. I hope the new o rings are not bad.
