Alright all. I am needing some help with wiring my 500watt inverter. It has to be direct wired from the batteries, and my only other option is to have freightshaker do it for around $300. Anybody thing they can help me out?

Your simpliest option would to be go to Wally World and buy you
one that plugs into the cig lighter. You can get ones that can handle
    a good amount of power.

Now about wiring your invertor, you will need to go and buy an installation
kit for the invertor. It will come with two wires, one red and one black, that
should be able to reach from the battery to where you want the invertor.

Next run both your wires from the battery area to where the invertor will
be installed. Once your wires are ran connect the red line to the positive (+)
battery post. Then do the same for the black line, after that is done you then
connect you invertor to the wires the same way you did to the battery. BUT BE
CAREFULL ONCE YOU HAVE THE WIRES CONNECTED AT THE BATTERY DON'T LET
THEM TOUCH WHEN YOU ARE HOOKING THEM TO THE INVERTOR (the exposed ends
of the wire anyway if you do you will see lots of sparks LOL, and could fry the computer on the truck).

And another thing your company might not let you do this yourself because of what
I mentiond earlier about the sparks and other things that you could do wrong and end
up with a burnt down truck.

Hope this helps, if you got any more questions just ask.

P.S I did mine about 2wks ago so I do know what I'm talking about. And no
    it's not a company truck.

When you go to buy the installtion kit there will be
different ones for the different size invertors. Each one
will have the approiate size wire needed for the installation.

AND TO LONEWOLF I forgot to tell you about a in-line fuse. You
will need to put one preferably close to the batter so that if
anything goes wrong it will fry the fuse and not burn down the truck.

where do you put the inline fuse. How big of a fuse? Where can you get them?

The inline fuse will go on the power wire or the red one.

When you go buy the wiring kit it should come with one.
You can buy the kits at TS's and electronics stores you know
Wally world and stuff. If the kit does not come with one tell
the person helping you that you need and inline fuse for that size
wire and they SHOULD be able to help you select the right one.

Thanks Coon. Is it an option to go with a heavier kit than the inverter you have? I have done electrical with houses and some stereo stuff so I am familiar with ground, positive, and neutral wiring. This is just the first time I have looked at wiring something directly to a battery terminal on a vehicle.

Get some welding leads from your local Welding Supplier; 25feet, about $1.25 a foot.
Cut it in half (2@12 1/2 foot pieces). Strip 1/2 in of insulation off each end and solder #1 Copper lugs on each end. Mark ONE with RED zip ties.
Run both out a hole under your bed. Connect leads to battery, RED to positive. Connect other ends to power inverter under bunk.

    TOOLS needed:
    wire cutters
    sharp knife
    propane torch
    electrical solder
    #1 copper lugs
    welding leads

I "suggest" a "quick connect" found at Napa Auto

    Total cost: about $50.
takes about an hour. If you have any further questions, PM me and I will post pictures.

Most newer power inverters have built in fuse protection.

you can also get heavy duty jumper cables and cut the ends off to use.it is large enough for most invertors
