I twisted one out of a single axle fuel truck that stuck in a hole that was covered in snow. 2 stroke Detroit, pulled every hanger bearing out and there were 3 of them. I actually wound up with the twisted piece, a friend of mine worked in the shaft garage. Thought about making a table out of it, never got to it.

They probably didn't time the shafts. If you don't line up the u- joints(or time them) it will vibrate like a mother.

That is why anyone buying u-joints should buy quality, the cheap ones from China don't hold up.Carrying a greez gun doesn't hurt either.

Ive had axles come out but not lost a shaft yet.

I had one incident where chain got away from my headache rack and hung down to the pavement next to my drive shaft until people got me to stop and fix it before we really had a problem. I have a feeling they saved at least my life and others that night.

And I had one tractor floor and everything on it including me drop to the shaft below. Luckily the frame rails stopped it before we hit it. I had to pull up my feet off them quick. I consider that a total and negilgent failure on the employer's part (B&B Concrete of Little Rock) to replace that over abused tractor. I did not stay too much longer after that incident. Especially after they punched a few more hundred rivets to put it back up and said here you go. Its one thing to enjoy one of their older autocar mixers but there is always a certain time you have to say enough and junk it before it really kills someone.

Awesome photo probably only appreciated by us mature fellows. But I’m glad they don’t make them like that anymore; it’s actually nice to have 565 hp, dual heated leather seats, SiriusXM stereo with Nav, 72 inch sleeper with Espar and fridge....well, you get the picture.

Final Drive, Tombstone69 and x1Heavy Thank this.
