Trunk lip mount could work, although some scratching of the paint on the inside is advised. Plus, I knocked the trunk catch over with a hammer to make sure it didn’t float during bounces and lose ground.

Neighbor has a $250k sports car, the first thing he decided to do when he picked it up was put a 440 antenna on the top of it, he drilled right through the roof and put in a NMO mount.

    Slowmover1 and rabbiporkchop Thank this.

next time i’m there i’ll take a pic. it works and sounds very well.

cheap kiddie car or not, i am not drilling holes in it. i wont even do that to my old jeep. i was wanting to use the radio on the power tour, about a week or so. it won’t fit in the garage without removing the antenna every time anyway. i’m a car guy, not a cb radio guy.

edit: the car has a factory sirius/onstar/gps shark fin on it now. so by default i guess i own one that has those functions.

The low garage door problem is why I used a front fender mount on my old pickup. I know thats not the best location for an antenna, but it worked fine for me. Plus I was able to use existing screws under the hood to hold the mount.

They work great when sitting directly on the paint. Putting a piece of plastic in between will kill the performance.
So do it your way and don't be concerned about performance.

Take a look at NMO mounts. They’re low-key. Don’t really stand out.

A Larsen NMO 27C antenna also doesn’t stand out. Pro two-way equipment.

Whether you use one or not, have a look.

You’ve been passed by dozens of public service vehicles with these.

i’m concerned about irreversible modifications to the car. i looked at the car closely today and i’m not sure if i can do it like i want. the trunk to fender lines are tight and everything is new, i’m afraid running a coax thru there will pinch it. i’m also concerned about the antenna coming off at high speed and flopping around on the car. per usual, the right way to do it is the most invasive. i put a mark sherman tuned general hp40 in the el camino last year and it was a blast. i was hoping to have a radio in my car so i could talk to dad, he loves the cb stuff.

eh i have some time, i’ll keep digging. thanks for the replies.

Drilling isn’t most invasive. Just seems like it. Moving interior panels the hard part.

Don't take this wrong but it is a mass produce car where there are thousands of them out on the road. I did it to my Prius, my son's Ford Watson built Mustang (which is a unique car) has a NMO on it too.

not to mention there's nothing irreversible about drilling a hole.
It would probably take me 30 seconds to weld a piece of sheet metal to fill the hole and a little bit of filler and primer and paint so a total of about an hour just to make the hole disappear Without a Trace.
