If you're young and strong, try food service.
Sysco, etc... they're always having openings.
The work is tough, but it keeps you in shape, keeps you at home, and you make good money doing it.
Plus, you'll learn how to maneuver a truck in tight places behind restaurants and shopping plazas.

Once you get that experience of actual time behind the wheel... and do it safely.. you'll have little problems getting on with a local P&D operation like Old Dominion Estes, YRC , or SAIA. Then you won't have to kill yourself physically.

We all have to pay our dues.

 

10k a year is 5 figure, I’ll hire you

 

Try to apply to some LTL companies. I do linehaul at night and I'm home everyday. At my terminal its optional to work on Saturday to make extra money.

 

If you have all the endorsements, there's plenty of tanker work around Houston.
Foodservice pays really well, but it's backbreaking work. With a family of 7 though, probably have to tough it out. I thought I had it rough when I started with a wife and four. Anyway, I survived and so can you.
A&R Logistics - make about $65K with a benefits package on top of that. Do not need any endorsements with this company. Do not need tanker endorsement either because of the product they haul.

 

Labatt Food Service - Houston - $60,000 - $90,000 a year
Ignore any "experience required" because this company hires new cdl school grads. If this company interests you, submit an application.
