I’m in the PSD phase with a trainer and all he does pretty much makes me drive hours and hours, at least 6 hours a day and it’s my 3 rd day already with him OTR, even though I told him I’m not comfortable yet doing all these hours specially at night with bad condition like humidity and fog that I can’t see more than 5sec ahead knowing I’m 20/20 btw both eyes.
Is that part of the PSD to let the student drive that much and being worry about hot fast we need to get the load on time etc. it’s like I’m a team drivers??
HELP please!! Prime Inc “PSD”

6 hours a day!?
FearTheCorn, austinmike, Opus and 12 others Thank this. -
Wait, you want to be a truck driver and you think 6 hours of driving is too many?
Good lord you are in for a big surprise! Get ready because you have to learn to drive 11 hours.
If you cant handle 6 hours, you may need to give up any ideas of driving tractor trailers.
Dont even bother to drive for a bottling company as they want you to run a 14 hour dayTheRealPorkChopExpress, Rollr4872, bottomdumpin and 7 others Thank this. -
I meant I’ve never driven a tractor before that’s why I’m a student trying to learn and get my CDLTheRealPorkChopExpress, Upinsmoke and Swiss Mountain Dog Thank this. -
I’m concerning if that’s right for him to keep me driving and have me worry about the load like it’s my responsibility while I’m a student in his truck!TheRealPorkChopExpress and Upinsmoke Thank this. -

When you get out there if you dont do that 11 hours per day? Prime will be telling you to bring that truck back and they will kick you off the truck. We are in the business to keep the truck rolling. 6 hours is easy work.
Upinsmoke Thanks this. -
I don’t know anything about Prime’s training program.
My first day training I drove 10+ hrs. But trainer was in the passenger seat the whole time.
Hang in there. It’ll get easier.TheRealPorkChopExpress, tscottme, Upinsmoke and 2 others Thank this. -
It's Stamina You are going to be doing 11 hours straight through some days with a tiny fuel break that will wipe out your 30 minutes.
You don't yet have stamina you are going to need to build it so you can endure 6 or so 10 hour days in a row. You will be too tired to spend money or carouse but that's ok, you have another load going back across.
6 hours that's .. eh.. a bit light. That does not include the rest of the potential 24 hours day and night.
Night time is a form of weather, you can only see so much and drive accordingly. Me I am a night owl, I'll run nights all the time. Even now I do it. Some are morning people. You have to develop that stamina so you can roll.
Pacing yourself is important but those loads. They have to be delivered on time. So there you are yer it. gt going, yer late already ... =)
as far as team, my spouse in her second week was essentially a team with me. We rolled. Once dispatch understood that all bets were off then. That only improved as we learned what she was capable of and where her limits lie. And we found them too. That's where I came in.tscottme, Upinsmoke and lovesthedrive Thank this. -
In some ways you have it easy now. Back in 07 when I was being taught, it was a 11 hour day behind that wheel. No time off after a 70 hour week. If anything with paper logs there was a way that a driver could drive a 10 hour day and keep driving with out getting a 34 hour rest period.
So if anything you have it lucky now. At least you will get 34 hours to relax.Upinsmoke Thanks this.
