Hi all, ive played with the idea of being a trucker now for some time. I don't mind the lifestyle change, I'm an introvert anyway. Right now I work at a menial job, working six days a week, 57 hours, to gross about 45k a year.
Knowing that, would you all just give me the kick in the rear to give this thing a shot? Heh I mean even at the starting megas carriers, if I kept the wheels turning would I make more than I do now even in my first year?
Career advice requested :)

Quit wasting time; hit the road.
$45K is really low pay in trucking, even for a new driver.
Where is your location; state & nearest city/town? We need this information to help you get started with a decent company.Last edited: Mar 2, 2019
sevenmph, PacoTaco, UturnGirl and 1 other person Thank this. -
I would say you can probably only drive 120,000 miles a year.. 120,000x pay per mile. If you get $0.40 cents per mile that's $48,000 a year

There are a lot of factors that go into this, the most important being your work ethic and attitude, but the answer is yes, you can definitely make more than that if you are willing to do what it takes. I just made a post going into my first year earnings in the flatbed section. You can take a gander at it here.

Don't do it.
Don't listen us.
We're lifers out here,
It's all we know,
We're no longer able to work
Side by side with normal people.
Don't do it.
Don't listen to us.
We love it,
We're hooked,
Don't be like us.
The highway calls you all the time.
Wherever your at,you'll feel the need to
Start heading a 1000 miles to another city.
Rainy,snow or shine.
Just the way it is.
It's easier to get a crack head off of crack,
Then it is to get a experienced truck driver off of the road.sideloader, p608, dwells40 and 4 others Thank this. -
I have been thinking of starting a Trucker rehab. Do you think this would be something that would interest people like you? Say for $20,000 I get you so you no longer need the road for your fix. I am just waiting on start up capital to get this program up and running.BigDog Trucker, Lonesome and bryan21384 Thank this. -

Use to be a manager, getting yelled at all the time stressed out, always taking work home with me blah blah blah. Getting my cdl was the best choice I ever made, and more money too! I will add, your first year with a cdl might suck. You’re new so in terms of runs and loads you might be bottom of the box until you gain experience. Just keep at it and it will get better, I promise.

Last year I averaged 14.29k miles a month... An average that high takes a highly dedicated person, and a very good company. But it is possible.
