long time lurker here, so the plate on my front bumper is gone, either someone stole it or it flew away from yesterday’s storm. I am now at a truck stop contemplating if I should run or not. I will be driving from NH to a terminal in nj and I really don’t want to get a ticket for having no license plate. Should I make the drive?
Can I run without a front plate?

Do you have a second plate on the rear? If so, move that plate to the front and go. Some jurisdictions only issue one plate and when that is the case it goes on the front of a tractor. If you've got a trailer no one will even notice a missing plate on the rear of the tractor (unless you get inspected, and even then I wouldn't worry too much).

Call company get your plate number or look at you IRP, make one from cardboard stick on front of bumper or dash, be prepared to explain to DOT what happened to original plate. In the mean time have company order you new plate.

No plate on the rear, only had one plate

if you have the paper work for the truck I wouldn't worry about it and ride
TGUNKEL Thanks this. -
Just get a lost tag report from cops, use that and the paper irp tag in the permit book, The company will get a new plate when you go by a co. yard.

Call your company and have them order a new plate. The truck registration has all the pertinent info on it, to include the plate number. I would do as posted above as well... Cut out some cardboard, put the plate number on it, etc... then get some clear tape so you can wrap it. (So it won't disintegrate in the first rain) Then zip tie it to the grill. Then be prepared to explain to folks who stop you, if any do at all...
But if you have a elog that sends messages, send it over the log... explain the situation and make sure you keep the conversation. (both yours and company replies) This way if DOT does says something, you can show them the messages.
Might help soften the LEO up and show that you are not lying.Lite bug Thanks this. -
Very sure I will be stopped by a-hole cops in Ma. I’ll tell them to verify the vin number of the truck with the registration as proof
The cardboard idea might bring even more attention than having no plate, idk. Hope I don’t get a ticketLast edited: Mar 3, 2019

No plate will bring more scrutiny then paper plate. Trust me. What do you get when you buy a truck or car at a car dealership ? a paper plate.
