OH OH HAHAHA, I thought you meant a particular truckstop! I was trying to fit TA in that somewhere because it was the only one I could think of with a couple of letters! Thanks (if you get yelled at, tell them I threatened to tell the FBI about your offshore accounts)

If you only have 6 months exp. i think it would be in your best intrest to stay a company driver for awhile longer.

I agree but if that what he wants to do and thinks he'll be successful, hell live and learn right, we all learned with hands on experience too, but he'll either do it right or wrong there doesn't seem to be a 3rd direction in this business

I say go for it, do the l/p thing, but be prepared for some of the same treatment that company driver's get. For instance as an l/p operator, you can refuse loads, but at the same time some fm will get upset with you for that and make you sit. Goes both way's company and l/p operators.bol.

lol, I been steering wheel holding now for about 12 years, and I still wouldn't be an O/O. Last years fuel prices made examples out of alot of our nations best O/O's. When we come out of this recession, be prepared for even higher fuel prices. They're saying 2009 is the year for $200 per BBL oil.

    Just something to think about.

Yeah, i know what your saying about fuel prices and other expenses, but everyone's situation is diffrent at home. Some people live a pretty simple life and other's are in debt over their heads.:biggrin_25525:

Not saying I'm right or wrong but I just make sure my calculator always has fresh batteries, because you should figure in everything you can think of, and everything costs money in one way or another, if you get a thousand bucks in your hand can you set aside 900 of it for god knows what and live on that hundred til you get more?

If you go this route you'll learn to be very good at dealing with money or you simply lose everything and live in a van down by the river!!

I've come across both types of people, the ones that are very frugal with money earned, hell one friend probably still has his money from the tooth fairy, but the other guy that says these things don't work, I'm goin broke, when you dive deeper into some of those people, they have every piece of chrome for a truck, eat at Olive Garden 3 times a week, the trucks motor is running 24/7, there are just alot of things that make these people fail and it's not always the company or freight, sometimes it is but the people that have a solid business plan can more times than not weather these storms, life sucks during these times, eatin PB&J 3 times a day, but if it's your dream you'll learn real fast how to make it work or you'll find that "I'm not as smart as I thought and never should of done this"

I can't stay a company driver ... because I'm not one now! (I know what you mean, though....) I think it's in my best interest to get the hell out of the house.

To me right now, being successful would mean clearing at least $300 a week and not hating my job.
