Good day all. I've been a stay at home dad for 10 years. My children are older and can fend for themselves. I obtained my CDL through my local community college and ready to start a career in trucking. What can I do to help me with my 3 year work history companies require?

The truth is never a bad place to start. If you weren't employed, and stay home Dad as you say, most places will accept a letter ( notarized ) from neighbors, teachers, priest, someone that can verify you've been what you claim to have been doing.

Just list the dates to the best of your knowledge you were a stay at home dad. If asked assuming you have them get all your IRS 1040s that should show you had no income but can show you were otherwise busy. The carriers are required by 391.23 to get this information and if needed verify it.

However you might have to get a refresher, 10 years is a long time out of the saddle.

Moose, I just read your reply to another similar question, about a fellow who was employed part time. I was in that 10 year period, a certified NC state ff/emt. Was hoping that would help.

I am telling the truth about being a stay at home dad. My wife works for a well known international business and does very well. It was in our and our childrens best interest, since I made less then her, for me to stay home and take care of things. Now, im ready to get back to work, paid my own tuition for community college CDL program, obtained my cdl Feb 1st..

It helps, just make sure you list the begin and end dates However if you just got the CDL stop worrying about the 10-year thing, you only need list 3 years.

You can also look at it this way. With you providing info. Even tax returns for your wife and yourself. It's only a good company who will hire you. The rest are idiots. You don't need them.

You can always get a local job for a year with a company that cares about your skills and not your job history and than you can apply to any of the big boys( spell that mega's).In any case good luck and know you did a good thing, Lord knows raising kids ain't easy especially these days.
