My wrench says the electric APU's are worthless for Phoenix type conditions. They tried some and he classifies them as "junk."

Not arguing, but they work fine in Boise in August for standard 12-hr periods, even at 110+ degrees. Still have more than 50% charge after 12 hrs. We never really park longer than 12 hours, ever, so that may be the critical difference.

That’s all I’ve ever heard from anyone except the head of sales for those things. They’re only worthwhile in moderate climates, Where afternoon temps above 92 degrees Fahrenheit rarely exceed 3 or 4 hours

I was parked next to a truck a week or so ago that was running an apu... It sounded HORRIBLE!... Like it was about to throw a rod. And as I walked past to go take a shower, the exhaust fumes made my eyes water and nose burn. When I came back to my truck I made it a point to look a little closer at my neighbors apu... There was a huge oil on the ground where apu exhaust was directed... I dont think he had been taking care of the proper maintenance on the apu. What an idiot.

More than a hobby — yuppies in Sun Valley will pay big bucks — thinking there’s 15 or 16 Franklin’s I can put in the Crown Royal bag — only about 360 more to go before I start serious truck shopping.

What Schneider found is they work great for the first 12-18 months, then reliability goes down, particularly in the units used down south.
