I'm still researching a 2013 d13 vhd, the engine hours read 15,000 hours, mileage is 210K, so it seems its mostly been running the pto idling.
So how many hours are to many hours? I'm used to using mileage. So far I'm seeing these engine will make 1 million miles, with the normal wear and tear parts replacements.
Thanks

If you considered 60 mph for each hour on the engine that would be 900000 miles.
And I believe idling the engine is worse than driving it I would say that truck has too many hours the engine is done.
I would definitely look for another truck if I was you.
Good luck.ddif, KB3MMX, Newto Trucking and 1 other person Thank this. -
All depends on the $$$$$.
Is it cheap? -
Its average priced, it just has the specs we need, tag axles, gear ratios etc.
ddif Thanks this. -
We'll just add in another $20,000 on top of the price they want, so you can get the engine overhaul, and if it still seems doable at that price go for it.Last edited: Mar 8, 2019

I was lucky enough to find a tech from a dealer, he mentioned his sheet shows, every 750 hours equals 30K miles. So I am looking at a 2013 D13 with 600K miles of actual use, and not the 200K miles I originally thought.
Thought I'd pass along the info. -
I would say that if 80% of the engine hours multiplied by 60 mph doesnt come close to the actual miles on the engine then it is to many hours.

My engine has 19608.5hrs with 705287 miles on it. 6753 of those houts is idling. Just to give you a picture. My fuel economy took a dump last winter and now Im lucky to get 6 mpg. I hate this little green engine. Its junk.
Newto Trucking Thanks this. -
Do you idle overnight or you have a bank heater or apu??
