At around $ 80 TRILLION in value, who has the duration to last? A no name unestablished company like Nikola, or BP, Shell, ConocoPhillips? And who gives a crap about California? They are a consumption state, not a production state.

Their rates don’t dictate anything as far as the economy goes. A simple check of the spot market index rates can show you that. A lot of people shy away from trucks that manufacture their own engines. You are crippled by the lack of parts availability, the intellectual property sometimes, and the first hand intricate knowledge of that drivetrain.

 

You have to be kidding me. Are you sure you are an o/o? These trucks will cost 400-500k? Really? Something isn’t making any sense. Do these trucks run for free? Even if they did run for free, how does an additional 250k or 350k make these trucks profitable? These trucks will not sell to the masses (or at all) if they are asking more than 200k. Current diesel trucks with 7.5 MPGs (minimum) require less than $52,000 in fuel for 130k miles a year, at $3 per gallon. Again, something isn’t adding up.

California is a Port state, as far as I read I think They already have a large partner, and financing that they returned all the down payments for their trucks back to customers.

As far as California dictating rates think again, because of California all new trucks have DPF/DEF, California is the reason for many bad decisions are made when it comes to big rigs, summer time California outbound rates are high in turn making inbound rates a joke.


@snowman_w900 have you been given a price? Terms of purchase? Anything other then reserving a spot in line? Last I heard payments where going to be around 5k-8K per month.

 

They are including the hydrogen and All pm service for free with that payment for the length of the lease. That was taken from the initial release video but prices as I said wasn’t concrete.

 

If they lay down some Winslow stripes it’d be bad ###. Get some fake stacks too! They putting them on petes why not that rocking robo truck

CA? The capital of produce in the US. I am going to guess you don’t do reefer.

 

Their inbound rates are high for produce in a limited window. No one besides reefer haulers look at California as part of their model unless they are based out of California. How do you conflate California’s emission standards with rates across the country? There is zero correlation.

Nikola is a tree hugger dream unlikely to make an impact on the scale you propose. Do you realize 90 percent of carriers are 20 trucks or less, and 97 percent are 6 or less?
