Got my start hauling produce in a 6 wheeler...1977, I rode with an older guy to Bennington Vermont, so he could show me the "route". He was backing down this alley to the backdoor of a restaurant and says, "I always put my window down when backing up." He went on to explain that he had ran over a deaf guy and killed him right there, apparently, the guy never heard him coming...So he says now he always backs up with his window down so he can hear if anybody yells...

That has stuck with me to this day, I always put my windows down so I can hear if someone yells. I do a lot of backing up on jobsites, so I'm always listening for any potential hazard. I also find it helps cut down on glare. When the sun is low in the sky, sometimes there is a "reflection" in the side windows, which disappears when they're open...

The longer the load, the easier the back up is. I can remember backing out on barges on I-95 in Old Lyme, Ct with 65' sheet pile when they were installing the kaisons for the new bridge, not much room for mistakes there. The words Ker-Plunk! come to mind.

That is never going to happen, not without buying a hood.

That's all fine and good but a trainer that is making and extra 3 to 4 grand a month should watch those videos and use his/her words to teach a student.

Trainers.. Especially at Swift.. Are known to be the laziest piece of ####s on the planet and most of the "Academies" don't even have simulated docks..

When a student asks how am I supposed to learn to back in the real world.. Answer is always.. Your trainer should show you!

Thanks Moose for putting into words why swift training sucks so bad.. Yeah just learn it through osmosis.. Not my job to train ya BRAH!

You must be having a bad day. I will not explain my comment you quoted again. Its a free country and you are most certainly allowed to hold an opinion. Why don't you go back to ignoring me.

Personally, just think about what you're doing. You can basically get it all backwards. There's countless videos that demonstrate the setup for an alley dock. You need that. Follow it and often you'll back right into the spot. When you don't you have a problem. So what advice did you get for fixing this problem that you have right now. Getting it backwards is trying to remember the advice you got without regard to the problem. It might have been great advice, but it has nothing to do with the problem you have. Steer away from the problem doesn't help when the problem is not hitting the truck parked across from the spot you're backing into.

Even better than RC trucks, is a sim like American Trucking Simulator. I'm a broker and play it on my downtime!
