many make it a big deal, "I ain't making the money I was promised and need to make more" even though they never had a check in their life over $300 gross and now they have had several at $700 net.
To me we are our own enemy, we allowed the hype and promotion of this as a way out for those people who think they can work for a few months and ditch this for a real job <<< I have been told this a few times.
This really is part of the problem, people don't want to earn their way into a seat, they expect it to be handed to them because they know how to drive a car or have some twisted fantasy that they've always dream of being a truck driver and passed some simple road test my cats could pass. Even though they are the one who would cut off a truck and brake check them because they had to slow down if the truck pull in front of them a half mile ahead of them or hated to see trucks polluting the roads but now they need money and driving a truck is their last resort so it is now a dream.
I see a lot of this all the time, it gets tiring to read an app, call them and in the middle of the questioning I ask why do you need to work for me? then hear "well I need a job because ... I hit three parked cars across from the dock because I could not swing it to line up with the dock" even though the gap between the dock and the group of cars was 400 yards.
I hate those grant programs, these things are one of the most vile cause of the revolving door, no skin in the game so someone goes through the process, gets their CDL and then leaves after 8 months because they don't like it ... waste of tax payer money.
Everyone wants free training in the trucking industry.

You stayed the course. You didn't quit. You appreciated the help given to you. Some people can grow crops from the field given to them others can't. Hard work never hurt nobody well me anyway. I took that opportunity too sometime ago & I'm always thankful. All the best to you

School bus drivers dont have contracts..atleast not here in GA. You can pretty get trained up, grab your cdl and keep it moving. My dad is a retired instructor.

>Look as far and as wide as you want, you will never find any free training. You pay for it, you pay for it big time........one way or another. No one is willing to invest in themselves and improve their own standing, they always want and expect someone else to pay for it.
The training is paid for, I just would like to access actual training that isn't self taught within a 4 months time frame. The program that paid for my training has 45 other program participants from 6 months ago who have yet to complete the training and therefore I must wait my turn to access training.
We get 100 hours and I have used over 50 hours in two months. Two hours of that was "evaluation" hours and another 12 was simulator hours.
I have other options to get training hours in the driver's seat I just have to wait for teachers to get let out of the school for the year (two teachers I know through friends are Class A truckers) and another owner operator with 4 trucks is willing to give me 6 hours a month. The rest I will have to shell out for and pay a 3rd party examiner to test me.
So I don't expect free, but I won't pay another school to be put through the duplicate classroom training. -
The issue is a lot of people see the paychecks but don’t think about the effort needed to make that paycheck. Everyone wants to make 100k a year working part time. Just like construction the pay is high because of the hours you put in. If you really look at it the pay rate is no better than getting an office job it’s just the hours you’re allowed to put in makes the paycheck look good.

Eh I fulfilled my contract and I'm still there.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Sorry, I don't understand this thread. Who isn't just going to a school that basically hands you a CDL and going with one of the mega carriers who put you through 200 hours of hands off training?
-
This reminds me of college grads who took out megabuck loans to get their liberal arts degree with no job to show for it when they're done. Me and my credit card can't take that risk. What does private CDL class cost? $8K? $10K? My credit limit isn't that high, and the interest payments at 18% or more would wipe me out forever. Company paid training is my only option.
I haven't talked to a lot of drivers of any age, but the luckiest guy I've met went to a jr. college years ago, got his CDL for peanuts, and is driving local for an oil company. Where do I go to do that? The jr. college near me has a webpage claiming to offer training, but they never answer the phone or return phone calls. The webpage needs to be taken down. I don't think they're training anyone.Last edited: Apr 12, 2019

1. How much is CDL school today?
2. Sounds like a risky proposition.
3. See question #1. -
Re-do everything after becoming a RN? Why?
