Plus anytime a bus is involved in an accident for any reason, at fault or not, the driver is crucified.

and...... no matter where or when you stop, there is always 75 people in a line at the bathroom, soda fountain, cash register & to get that hot dog.

I guess in all honesty for me, seriously, is that there is too much responsibility. If a truck catches on fire, I can jump right out & let'er burn. If a bus catches on fire & I walk out there, stand around with my arms folded waiting on the fire truck, that's gonna kinda put me in a jam.

Another reason, seriously, is that I know some truck drivers are starved for people to talk to. Me, I am a loner. (See the quote in my signature below this post.) I ain't really a people person. To have to deal with all them people who are squawkin', laughing, yelling etc, for 10 hrs, ain't my thing. Waaaaay beyond my thing.

Sally is crying because Big Johnny is not back at the bus yet, because he is out looking for Little Johnny who is still 14 deep waiting for that bathroom.

No thanks. Seriously. I hope this helps.

Wait till autonomous vehicles will be on a road, all you will have to do it's to put people inside that bus, set up GPS , and kiss them good bye:)

In the past two greyhound rides I made the mistake of riding front row. All the other 6 around the driver pestered him with this that something or other and some more things. You could see the neck and vessals under tension for a couple hundred miles as the engine fed a bit more horsies in anger than really necessary.

One in particular in SW Indiana got run down by a bear and given a ticket for 65 in 55. He stomped back into the seat slammed the door and drove very badly blaming the world but himself since it was his third strike and he's out of a job as soon dispatch gets a hold of that.

These are just the drivers, Never mind the people and a thousand little worries and problems.

The one job worse than motor coaching has to be the casino runs. IF you want a eyeful of a herd of casino buses in Jersey.... delivered by 10, back at end of lunchtime.

Drove school buses for years and worked part time for a tour bus company.

Was making $17.50 an hour at the tour bus company, that's good money where I live in NC.

The reason you're having a hard time finding drivers is because of the school system. They've preached to these kids that you can't make a living unless you go to college and people like truckers, mechanics, hvac, plumbers, etc are a bunch of morons or convicts.

The age of people you want to target as drivers have been systematically steered away from jobs like this and the only people who stick around and are willing to work for the wages most charter companies offer are your second chance drivers.

    Every job has a price.
    You haven't hit the:
( it's worth it to deal with people price yet)

I refuse to go into ny city.
Give me 500 hundred bucks extra and I'll
Suck it up and deal with it.
And that's only for 1 pick up or delivery.

Maybe. But once “the price” becomes attractive to truly good drivers, it will also attract many you really don’t want. You will really have to raise your prehire screening game and expect to spend a lot of time, money, and resources to insure you might actually get what you think you’re paying for.

But ideally, you want drivers who actually want to work in that sort of job and are not in it only for “the money”. A few drivers with a bad attitude or no people skills will run a bus coach business into the ground very quickly with bad word of mouth and public reviews.

I've thought about driving a bus, but I can't bring myself to deal with the typical clientele. That's really it for me...having ridden the grey dog quite a few times, I really can't envy the driver, nor do I want his job, even given an elevated pay rate.
