Taking a pretty firm stance on this. would you?

I told the Ops manager that a wage less than what was discussed was on the letter. On one hand I do not want to be too stern or picky but on the other this is one of things that, morally, is absolutely non-negotiable, to me anyways, in accepting- a lower pay in the actual offer letter than what I was told in the interview.

It’s trucking. Jobs are a dime a dozen. Pick yourself up & find a better offer. It’s out there waiting for you. As for being lied to, you did right.

Never work for a boss who you can’t trust with your pay check!

If you have to run numbers weekly to verify your check, move on.

If you have to constantly call the office because your check isn’t right, move on.

If you don’t/aren’t going to earn what was promised, move on.

    You did it right.

The Operations Manager just got back to me, said "XXXX, sorry, I double-checked my pay sheet & I did misspeak on the driver apprentice starting pay rate. 20.30 in training, 22.58 once becoming a driver." Then you should have shown me the $20.30.

    Tempted to just walk.

could have actually been a mistake, it does happen.

i say take the job, and if after a month, your paychecks do not match, leave.

i’d imagine an operations manager at a company that big has a lot on his/her plate. most likely they don’t know the pay offhand and if they did they’d have several different positions to recall. i wouldn’t worry, most likely an honest mistake. i don’t see fedex maliciously misinforming you about pay.

Seems like an honest mistake this time. You are 100% right that you shouldn't stand for being lied to, but this really seems like something minimal. I hear FXF is a pretty good outfit. I personally would not walk just because of this issue, but everyone is different.

Been there done that, as for as manager. If he called and corrected it, I'd stay; but if it really was a mistake he would have checked and corrected issue right then, or at least say, " give me a day to figure out the right pay".

He checked after I brought it up then verified I would be starting out at the 20.13 instead of 22.58. Still mulling it over. I dont care how big of a carrier it is. Whether a multi-billion or a mom & pop & any mistakes regard to compensation, especially hourly pay have to be scrutinized & looked at very suspiciously. That's like me, if I were to hire somebody to do a job, and then when we go to sign the papers Im like "woah woah woah, actually, Im paying you less than what we talked about." We'll see.
