Hi,
Does anyone know of any tanker companies that will hire student CDL graduates in the Tampa, FL. area?
My endorsements are: Tanker, Hazmat, and Dbl/Trp and I have a TWIC card
Note: I am aware that CTL will hire student CDL grads.
Thanks in advance!!![]()
What tanker company will hire student CDL grads without any experience?

I started off driving tankers hauling fuel just like you straight out of school about 18 years ago. Can you shift? If not practice shifting on Somebody’s small vehicle. I will tell you what worked for me not saying it will work for you. I looked for little bobtail fuel companies. There called Fleet fuelers or wet Hosers. It’s not the easiest of trucking jobs but it pays pretty well and it will give you hazmat tanker experience. After three years of that I moved up to the large fuel tankers you see every day delivering to gas stations. you only need your class B to drive those and usually they are hiring But don’t let your class A go keep it so you can transition later.

Not sure but I thought that Superior Carriers hired new grads..or they did at some point.. May be worth a shot calling them?

Depends on the insurance. Matlack , when owned by Rollins was 'self' insured for the first 250K and was able to take the top 10%, put them thru another two weeks pulling old tankers half full of water and the survivors came out for 30 days with a trainer learning the how to's of getting loaded and off loading various products, Haz Mat, etc. before going into the union. around 40% made it to a year.

wis bang, I remember Rollins truck leasing. back in the 80's.
after they closed my company used UPS truck leasing. I think they bought Rollins. -
Rollins was big, owned the truck leasing, environmental disposal companies, Brandywine Horse track, Orkin pest control and the biggest reason Matlack was able to self insure, Rollins,Burdock, Hunter insurance.
We spoke to the 'insurance department' on the 2nd floor of the tower, they didn't work for Matlack.
Matlack was graciously given the 13th floor of the Rollins building, LOL.
I wonder who owns the tower now?
DuPont prevented Rollins Sr from building in Wilmington so he talked a township just up the hill into letting him built the office tower so he could look down on DuPont...It was a great view...
I wonder how much the mall developers paid for the horse race track?
Not bad for a guy who started out selling cars. -
Do you know that Quality Carriers is based in Tampa? I think they say they are the biggest tanker outfit. I don't know if they hire newbies. That's who I work for.
