is that local work not paying enough to have you looking into having 2 jobs? Because that how it looks to me and I think you should look for another job if so

Could be paying great, but it's a Mon-Fri job. Why not work Sat-Sun to bring in a few extra dollars.
Or if he's union, he knows it's worth hanging in there until he can get a bid run. Until then bills need to be paid.
Or he simply enjoys doing the second job and might as well get paid for it.

There are a lot of reasons that's not low pay that one might want to work a second job.

One thing that will always separate a compliance professional from a want to be is this one statement. You will never see them doing that thus say God speech either.

One thing that each driver had better be wary of are accident reconstruction teams. I have seen these people at work. You can blame them for that hours-long backup in some situations because they are studying the accident. The vehicles can't be moved until they release them. You can trust me on this one. If a roadside inspector acting after the fact is involved they do have a dog in that fight. It is they that will take a driver to a hospital to get tested for drugs.

In my other post, I mentioned proof. Most attorneys that go after a trucker and/or the company have already torn your life up. They have these reports. They have figured your hours working. There is a difference between hard proof and reasonable proof. Remember post-accident the cops in most cases are also observing the drivers demeanor, trust me if you are exhausted that officer will see it and they will make that part of the record. These things are hard to fight once brought into a trial.

So on the face of it a driver can per FMCSA rules work as long as they don't exceed those hours in 395. Also, it is true that because there are not DOT cops behind every tree with binoculars watching, you can get by with going over those rules. However, any compliance critter is always going to advise against doing it. The downside is real and can change your life forever.

    No it's not.
    It low pay,
    Like most local jobs.
He either can't or doesn't want to go on
    The road.

So now he has to work hard 7 days a week,
Between 2 different jobs, and pray that
He doesn't get in a bad accident at his
Driving job and some dirtbag lawyer finds
Out he's been working another job and
Not logging the hours like he's supposed too.

The purpose of a local job is to be home.
Not work 100 hours a week.

You simply don't know that. Heck another option is he wants to work as much as possible for 6 months a year so he doesn't have to work the other 6 months. Simple fact is he did not say why, so to say it's low pay is simply one of several options.
He could be like me, I work 4 12's and home every day etc... Having 3 days off can get boring at times, especially in the winter here in MI. Can't even really go work on the house or yard work yet. Having a job that I could work one day a week would be awesome.
I make enough that I'm ahead on all my bills, and am currently looking for a new truck. I don't need the money, but giving myself something to do would be good. It's just not worth it for me for HOS issues and the like.

Isn't that the truth! I am in the middle of reviewing a reconstruction report that is 948 pages long. As for the long delays, hopefully they will soon be a thing of the past. Some agencies have been experimenting with using drones for documentation and are currently applying for a blanket FAA exemption to allow them to fly drones over crowds so they can better document a crash scene without the ground based teams doing measure and mark exercises.

As for their reach, the teams that scare me are the ones employed by trial attorneys, of which I am a part of occasionally. They make the police agency teams look like amateurs with the level of detail they go to trying to prove culpability. With today's modern electronic records of everything it is nearly impossible to hide the paper trail generated by routine life, meaning they will find where you have been and figure out if you were reasonably rested or possibly one of the 4 D drivers -drowsy, drunk, drugged or distracted.
