Agree Craig, I have no experience with your tech, everytime I hear him on skip he sounds top shelf and between you and Rabbi and others his modifications dont harm a radio, but there are scores and scores of perfectly good stock radios that are ruined at the hands of so- called cb techs.

I guess "worked well" would be determined by each individual. "Working well" at 3 miles might be acceptable for some, but not for others. For others, "work well" might require working at 10 miles. Every person is different.

Good point, I think sometimes in our quest for perfection we lose sight of the fact that these are CB Radios, by definition to be used for 2 way short range communication ( 5 to 7 miles) ,personally I am not attempting to setup a long range base station in my rolling fiberglass coffin, just hoping to have an efficient enough setup to obtain valuable information 5 to 10 miles. More power to those that have the passion and the means to have a cb setup that averages transmit and receive ranges of 30+ miles, because after all it still is a hobbie and it is fun to strive for record setting contacts.

I originally was happy with 5 mi..Then i had a cobra 29 with an rfx 75 and i was thrilled to pieces to get 20..Finally i have a radio that has gotten me 40..BUT and there is always a but....Someone with the same type of trk and radio but different ant almost doubled that..So my quest to to increase mine some more..
Yes i know terrain, climate, set up and a pile more things can help or hinder it but when a very much the same equiment on another can do it and more then there is room to improve my set up...
There is a limit an all i know i knoooowwww but it gives me direction to try and learn more to gain..
I dont plan on amps and huge 50 ft towers and big base units in my home n such but just to have fun with what i have...
Keeps my mind off other stuff anyways..

I used to have a cb setup in my personal vehicle to bs with locals and I was always trying to change things to squeeze more and more range out of my system because some contacts were 15 miles away some were across the bay in St pete, fl, and I must admit it was fun having the ability to communicate with other stations 15 to 40 miles away.

    Thats another thing to..
I have 2 predators,a 5ft fs 2 7ft skip shooters and a mid coiled hustler(stupid to let cb shop talk me into it even though i knew its not for me in the big trk)and i have a 447hpc2 stryker that i had in my pick up..Someone asked to buy it and i took it out but then changed their mind..Figured i would sell that radio, cobra 29 chrome with an echo board and a 250 midnight special(dtb matched)and my mfj analyzer and grab another 955 for the hemi after i grab a tri or quad mag.Atleast then i can head to the coast and do side banding to god knows where..
Bad habit of "oooooo i like therefore i buy"..lol Dont need it so no point in keepin it..
Love the lil 447 but just no side band otherwise it woulda stayed in ma hemi..

The cobra and amp was to be for my dad but he passed b4 i could get one for him....
Mfj 259b works great but i just like the rig expert more..

Two years ago ( november 2016) I bought a new F 150 with the all aluminum body and obviously the Wilson 5000 mag antenna will not work, that I used on my previous F 150 , so right now I do not have a cb in my truck and quite honestly I miss having one , but lately Ive been on the road for 4 to 5 weeks and when Im home for 5 days I tend to find myself in a vegatative state and really havnt made an attempt to install one. In June I will probably drive from Florida to Michigan to visit family and will most surely need one for that road trip, need to be alerted to bears in Georgia when that Ecoboost is doing its thing, lol.
