Yeah, that's my thought I can't do it cheaper or quicker than a certified spring shop, and it should come with a guarantee and a warranty. If I'm building a truck and I've got all the time in the world, I'll do it, but if I want to get er done and get back to work, take it to the shop.
Fix or buy new steer axle?

I reached out to the previous owner. He told me the only thing he welded was the grease cap. Reason being, the bolt wasn’t catching anymore.
So I decided to go back to the shop & question them about the situation.
They said the reason I need a new axle is because the grease cap is welded & they can’t get to the king pins
But that’s not what they explained to me the first time
I remember them telling me the axle was welded where it shouldn’t be so I needed to replace it.
But they tried to lie & make it seem that they had already told me about the grease cap being welded.
Either I heard wrong or I was misinformed.
But can’t you just cut the weld? With a grinder or something? -
Sounds like its time for a new shop or take the truck to an actual spring shop. Probably cheaper in the long run to do that.
BoxCarKidd and Bigrigmayo93 Thank this. -

Certified spring shop, talk to the people that do it for a living, I have used National spring in Newark, NJ, and like I said in a previous post, I can't do it faster, cheaper or better than they can, not to mention the energy I'd have to exert, I ain't no spring chicken. Pun intended.

A good friend of mine has the reamer the bore king pin holes. Kaiser set him up with it. The axle on my 91 has a pair of bushings he installed. 350 a side verse a new beam I took a chance. I have a 150k on Michelin steers they are even as can be
Rideandrepair, spsauerland, Bigrigmayo93 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Well I’ll have the axle checked once I go to the shop. But if the only problem is that the grease cap is welded then I wouldn’t need a new beam.
As long as I can take of the grease cap & put it back on right?Rideandrepair Thanks this.
