I’m looking a 2 loads that pay 68 cents a mile. You’re remarks to stuff nobody wants is a bit off
I passed on a load paying $8 a mile the other day.
You would probably jump at that since you’re not actually driving the truck. It’s not difficult to make bad choices when your life and career are not on the line.
Insurance will replace the truck. And drivers are a dime a dozen.
PS Reality TV series that involve truckers are complete bull####. Ask me how I know

If you have business smarts/experience you can do well in this business. It's all about cash flow and setting some aside for rainy days (repairs).
Most that fail in this business spend every penny they make during the good times, then have zero reserves when problems come up.
Getting a driver is somewhat easier if you concentrate on more regional or local work so they can get home easier. Plus it helps with your expenses as you can get the truck repairs / maintenance done at a place you trust.
Bad drivers can literally steal from you, they sell your fuel at the pumps to owner operators for pennies on the dollar.
Kevin Rutherford's show on SiriusXM is a great resource, give him a call. The haters of his on here are just envious or jealous.kris20 Thanks this. -
I deposited $10k last month after all expenses. I’ll do about 8k this month. Is that profit? Maybe, but most likely not.
Why? Even with a well funded maintenance account. I might have a sudden need for a $20 k inframe within the next 6 months.
Got a new truck? A simple electronics issue can lead to 2 weeks down time on the road. Drip, drip, drip goes that perceived profit.
Have a driver in that truck? He isn’t sitting for free. More drip.
Knowing the “market” that is defined by Wall Street may help at the office. But has little effect on the guy who has weathered 20+ years as a successful O/O.
I just bought a new truck. I can pull freight for 2 years straight at $1.20 a mile including fsc and make a profit. Can you?
Am I going to? Hell no.
Niche freight is only good until the herd smells blood. And the wind will eventually carry the scent.kris20 and Midwest Trucker Thank this.
