What you describe is how it was 2 decades ago.
Current trucking professionals are the exact opposite of what you described, if you manage to surround yourself with that type thats on you. You just seem to gravitate towards that type of persons.

I am a van dweller who spends 1/3 of their sleeping at truck stops. Hence why I could handle living out of a tractor trailer cab for weeks and months on end.
